I'd say if is the car you have been looking for and have not found one in better shape than this one then I say "BUY THE SUCKER"!!!!!!!
That thing is incredible, to be sure! I'd walk up with 5k in your hand and 2k in your sock. I would pay 7k if it came to that, but who knows what's happening under all that water damaged interior? Those spoke wheels alone make it worth buying, plus there's nothing better than a full-fendered 2 door in my book. Perhaps if you assure him that you're not going to chop it up and that his dad's car will live on better with you driving it than having it rotting away on the land then maybe he'll be more apt to part with it. I know that's kind of a chick thing to say, but it's true. If he won't take 5k cash, get the stash out of your sock and buy the damn thing. Try for lower, the worst he can say is "no." By all means, buy it. Definitely.
It looks like it has the radio option in the dash waterfall. That's kind of a rare piece if in good order. I hope you get it, winter's comin' on... Flatman
If the car is what you want and it is complete it is definitely worth 7k. Go to a swap meet and try to find all those parts & pieces bring them home and make them all fit you will have that much time & money in the project.of your dreams. Besides,here you have a complete car to start with and you can get on the HAMB and ask how to fix things to make them work .
Car looks fairly clean to me, looks like something you could get running fairly cheep, make a mild rod / custom out of the sun bitch and drive about anywhere, id say is a good price!! RB Jr.

No, still have to make the trip. But I have to say that the nice looking black 37 2 door slant back street rod with the small block ford with the matching vintage trailer that only brought $23K on BJ Friday night has me worried.
DONT worry what the idiots on TV say or do. Just buy that car and have fun with it. That car with a bit of a stance,killer flatty and some mile deep black laquer would be worth more than one with an SBF to many folks!

LOL, I've already made the decision to get it. Just waiting on the owner to move some stuff around and give me the greenlight to come get it. But I'm a broke Sombitch and every dime counts so loosing a couple of grand on a car really hurts if ya' know what I mean.
As noted, there is no money to be lost here. (unless your plan is to have someone else build it and turn around and sell it).
That car is going to have some major issues after sitting outside for that long, you will need more than just some wheel cylinders to get the brakes up to par, you will be needing new lines, shoes, possibly drums, maybe a master cylinder. The engine has been sitting with no carb for how long, what crawled in there??, but put the carb on and it will fire right up huh?? Well good luck with that, this is not a car that was inside, is was outside exposed to all the damaging elements, rain, snow, sun, cold, heat, humidity. The car ran and drove perfect before it was parked right? Yea that's what they all say, then why was it parked in the back yard and never driven. There has been water leaking in for quite some time and that will certainly damage more than just the upholstery. the truth is that the car did run great at one time, many years ago, but had more than a few issues beyond the current owners mechanical ability so it was parked to be fixed at a later date, 10 years later he finally realizes that he will never get the car back on the road and that nothing is in good working order anymore right down to that sweet original radio that has had rain water leaking on it for the past 10 years, he thinks that the market is strong for an original car and if he can convince the right guy that it wont need much to get it going again then he can make out like a bandit. You should have told him to fly a kite when he told you 12k!, now he goes to 7k trying to convince you that it is a good deal because he took 5g's off his asking price, I wouldn't give him more than $4500 for a car that has major issues like that. Tell him the car isn't worth squat, but would be if he hadn't neglected it for the past decade. C'mon people, we have all seen this before and the best thing to do is walk away and let the next idiot that comes along buy it, you shouldn't have to pay an outrageous price to save a car that someone else got for nothing and has neglected and destroyed for the past decade, the seller deserves to sit on the car, that way he can look at it everyday rotting in the yard and think of how disapointed his father would be that he destoyed the car and then tryed to rob someone with his asking price

Ya, I agree. Steer away from old cars. They are nothing but problems. Outdated and obsolete parts, roofs that leak, leaky master cylinders only to find that it has mechanical brakes, etc. Not worth the hassles. Every car that I have bought that has sat for years is a crap shoot. Isn't that the fun part. By the way, I have never came across the nightmare that you describe. Maybe other areas of the country is worse for old cars sitting for years but can not be that different. If you want a new car, buy a new car. looks like a decent car for the money to me. sure its a bit of a gamble on how much it will take to run and drive again. looks like it was really nice when parked. the question no one has asked is what would you do with it? keep it stock? hot rod? flip it? that has an impact on the value to. I am not into stockers but I think from the value aspect this one makes more sense to just tidy up get running and have fun with it. this thread was a good read. ....so what would you do with it?
Not all of us! I'd buy it for 7, no problem. Sure I'd rather give 5 for it so I thought I got a deal but even in the SW rust free early Fords are getting real hard to find. Even around here people are asking that much for POS that need a ton of bodywork and part chasing.
What I would do with it is first get it running and take stock of what condition it is in mechanically. Go through the easy stuff if that's all it needs. Clean the living hell out of it and maybe put some red steelies and wide whites with a touch of ride hieght adjustment and drive it.
If you don't like the price, you can have your pick of these "beauty's" from North Dakota. Of course they may need a little more work or a few parts, but if "price" is what your concern is, these are lower. Sorry, I have to agree with those that say "buy", good bodywork is expensive if you don't have the talent to do it yourself. Replacing mechanical parts is a lot easier, at least for me, and if that car was close to me, I would buy it. Depends on if YOU really want the car or not. I'd pay double that price for it, coz cleaned up and on the road I could sell it for double the buy price. $7k for any pre-WW2 car that comes with a clear title, needs no body work and only minor mechanical work and and detailing to make it roadworthy, is a steal.
OK, Just got the call and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow Morning. It's will be 7 hours up and 7 back. He also told me that the car has 60K original miles. He has a rebuilt carb, complete new exhaust, lots of new rubber parts in the boxes, extra heads, a spare newly rebuilt steering box and shaft and a couple of boxes of spare parts that he is not sure of. It was bought out of Tennessee in 1990 for $12,000 and he has a clear title with current plates on it! He drove it to where it is and then went to install the new carb and a southwind heater and never finished the project. Now, anybody looking for a 51 Kaiser led sled project so I can make room for it?
Heck...That's a clean 35 Ford right there. Clean fire wall...dash... grill....butterfly hood...stock headlights...everything I'm seeing looks sweet.
