Features Rare Wheels - show us what you've got!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hemisteve, Feb 15, 2008.

  1. Lotta great wheels in this thread.

In view of Halibrand's popularity and thinking the 5 slot, slot mag
design was taken from them, I'm surprised more guys don't run slots.
Lots of different sizes available as well.

Been looking for a pair of the slot mags - if they even exist - in the fabled 12" x 15" in any bolt pattern.

Slots are nice wheels, well made in most cases, granted some strange adapter systems on some of them, but there are ways around that.

Around here, in pairs, they run free, $5.00 each to about a $100. per pair for the ten inchers.

I need one 5 1/2" x 14" in the drilled oval, requires no adapters Uni-Lug style.
Be glad to take two though.

Here's a couple shots of my last find.

    Here's a couple of $10. a pair wheels.
    Cleaned up fairly well.
They will shine up almost like chrome and with a little effort stay good looking for a long time.

The pair on my 32 were buffed maybe ten years ago, brought up to the almost looks like chrome stage like aluminum will most times.
They still look good and have had minimal care.

    Me too....:D
But slot wheels are not created equal....some just don't look good. The size of slot, offset, lip, etc are just a little "off"....
But others look really good. ET's and Ansens are good looking slots.

  3. One thing that's strange with the above pictured narrow mags is, one is cast with US Indy Mag and the other says 4 1/2 x 15.
    Exactly alike except for that.

I've got much the same opinion about the Torque-Thrust style.
Most look really good, the others look like they were designed by someone with a serious hangover....

i bought a low mile 55 Buick. I was still on a CA pink slip, so I tracked the guy down. He had additional docs. and a set of widened steel wheels. He said the wheels were made in the early 60's by his neighbor who did this in his garage as a money making hobby. He send me the wheels for $100. Today...his neighbor owns Wheel Vintiques! I think the Fish wheels came later (like in the 80's), and were aluminum perhaps someone on here knows more, but they were very nice repos with really nice detail, maybe even better than Eric Vaughns.

Not sure what you have there. They look older, and magnesium, but really bitchen!

  11. Yesterday I dropped off a pair of Centerlines with big slicks for a friend.
I sold em for what I paid for them.
Nice part was, he knows I like Slots so he tossed in a fairly nice Ansen 8 1/2" x 15" wheel.

Any chance you have a pic of the inside of the 8 1/2" x 15"?
I find no identifying marks inside the wheel, but it does take a Uni-Lug adapter.

Said he's been toting it around for 20 years and never did find a mate for it although I don't think he was looking real hard.

    Now I need one more.

He has a single Ansen 4" x 15" and wants another.

Anyhoo, if you don't have a pic, I can post one this afternoon and you can compare if it's convenient.

Wow, these are one of the most interesting wheels I've seen. I saw a set of these magnesium 2 piece daisies on ebay several years ago and wanted to bid on them. I have never seen another set other than these. very cool

I bought 5 of these wheels on ebay for cheap money. One has never had paint on it. I don't know what they are (not Ford) but they're cool! The seller listed them incorrectly and nobody else bid! They are early Ford pattern, 5 lugs on 5 1/2" bolt circle. Destined for my nailhead-powered hiboy real soon:D

    hey backyardbeliever,
yeah, most people seem to think these are Palamides.
but i think Palamides were not marked/labeled/branded in any way?

nobody seems to have any info if he ever branded any of his wheels or not.

    they sure look like Palamides.
    4 hole, magnesium, etc., etc.

but the "P & B WHEELS" part seems to be throwin everyone off.
    thanks for the input,
    steve bava

way old 12 spokes (I think Palamides as there's no American Racing cast into the innr face of the spokes, no markings or anything anywhere)
    [IMG][IMG]

16x13 Halibrands, now sold on unfortunately but they came off one of the famous British nitro funny cars 'Houndog' owned by Nobby Hills

I had posted a few pages back on those, they look to be the KH artillery style wheels like I have on my roadster. I took the outer ring off, and have to figure out some sort of hub cap for them, mine are 16 x4.5 with the 5.5 bolt pattern also.

My score from the swapmeet at Goodguys Bowling Green yesterday. A set of 18 inch Halibrand wheels w/ tires for $300. I wouldn't think there are a bunch out there with a 5x100mm bolt pattern and a FWD offset.

A couple of hours of polishing...... and my wife is off of my ass. Her car now has big wheels.

They would be off topic if it weren't for the fact that I get to start a new project in good graces.

  29. Very nice.

Did I see the car at Viva Las Vegas this year?

Reason I ask is there was a 39 or 40 and I want to say it was green that ran aluminum wheels with SCTA mandated type back-plates on it.

Are those back-up plates on your car or are they simply a good looking finish off the wheel plate?

  30. Shiny nice.:D

I'm wondering if your buffer ball is picking up sand or small gravel when sitting on the driveway?

They make nice scratches in the wheel or paint when they have sand in the buffing surface.
