Hello, I hope to pick some brains here to do some disturbing things to my 64 sting ray. I love g***er style hot rods and am looking into the possibilities for my car. I've had this car for 30 years, and it has been sitting for the last 20. I'm just starting to dismantle her, all being done in my garage, that needs some more cleaning. Anyone with g***er style know-how, I'd love to hear from you. I'm thinking of keeping the front suspension, going with bigger coil springs to get the lift, I'd love to do a straight axle, but don't have the budget at this time. Cheers to all!
If you are not trying to pull a early april fools joke and are serious. The first thing to go is the rear spension. The vet goes around corners very good with a stock rear but on a straight line they will not let the tire stay planted. The way they move around a 10 inch tire can have 10 down to 5 inches of rubber on the ground. I like a 4 link with coilover shocks. Stock front is ok disconect sway bar or remove it all together. next a set of 90/10 or 80/ 20 shocks for the front. Good luck as the restorers will give you greif on this. 64 vettes sell high. for the money you spend on this conversion you would be money ahead by leaving the vette stock and build somthing else. non gm cars are reasonably priced and make great g***er projects.. I hope this helps.... Bobby..
Hey -good to see another vette guy - most important thing is to get the car back on the road. Take it to the drags or just put it on the road and drive it. You've been missing out on a lot for fun with this car. Good luck!
Thanks Bobby, let me give you some more info, I don't think the car is worth that much, engine and ****** aren't original, there's a bunch of putty under the front fenders, and the headlights have been "moved".. ( I like the headlights). I bought the car when I was 17 for cheaps, and due to life interference, it's been sitting in a garage for the last 20 years. I want the car to be a street car, so drivabilty is important. I'm in the process of tearing down the motor, so I can pull it and have the block checked out. I'm definately planning on replacing the independend rear, and yea a 4 link is state of the art, but I think I'm going to go with some styling old school ladder bars, should be alot cheaper too. Once I get the motor out I start thnking about how to lift the front end.... Thanks for your input, Pete
