I am currently building a 31 tudor hotrod, and I am trying to decide whether i should install a drop front end formed from the stock one, or if i should just break down and pay for a new mustang II IFS system.

IFS looks like **** on a Model A.
Dropped A axle is the way to go, the only way.

Im intending to put the A axel back in it, just as soon as i can figure out how to form the drop axel. Or if i find some one in this area that has one for sell for a reasonable price. Just wasnt sure if they would be as functional as the IFS.

I don't really know what to say. You should spend some time searching and reading before asking questions like that, especially on this board.

I've actually already got 3 or 4 stock front ends, an old farmer here in town decided to sell off his collection. So i bought him out in hopes to have enough stuff to build one real hot rod. its a great start so far, i started by chopping the top 6 inches have done alot of the body work. So now im going to start building the frame and suspension for it. Just gettin some advice on how to set the suspension up for it.

    IFS = Street Rod (goldchainer)

Straight Axle = Hot Rod (cool)

There's a guy in Ponca City OK that does axle drops - nice work for $200. Google Okie hot rods, you'll find him.

it is screaming for a 4" dropped front axle (model A that is)

this car needs to be built right..
    IFS stands for

It Fucking Sucks..at least on an A

Its Okie Joes speed shop - no affiliation, just a satisfied customer. Other HAMB vendors do it too.

4 inch is what i was hoping to install, i've seen a couple done with that, and i think thats the way its suppose to be done. IFS = It ****ing ****s makes complete sence to me. also the post about hot rods are a axels and the goldchainers use the ifs. this has all been extremely helpful for me!

If you want to end up with a CLOWN car, the IFS would give you the CLOWN car look on your model "A". You could put in some toilet seats, and a barbed wire headliner, and call it done.

    OR

Maybe you should slow down, and educate yourself, before you F up a good model "A".

although you did ask for opinions. I just really like that quote.

How many A axels do you have? You may be able to get one done cheap if you throw in an extra the guy could sell. If you find your vendor on the HAMB, it's always good to tell them that. Look into joining the alliance too. Discounts from tons of vendors.

regardless, dropped axel is the Hot Rod way for an A. <!-- / message -->

dropped I-beam axle, spring on top,1940 Ford style spindles,1939-48 Ford drum brakes,
V-8 split wishbone or hairpins (easier) that'll be your basic hot rod front end.

I love the FNG 67-72 chevy trucks guy.
I'm going to change my name to 83GTstangracer.

  22. Sorry about the hokey-lame name...
I'm trying to keep my post #'s low until I think of a cooler log-in name.
I was thinking "The Rushmore State Loser" but... That didn't describe my current interests.

Drop axle is only way to go. No need to reinvent the wheel here.Besides the fact that MII suspension is ugly and out of place it's alot more money and alot harder to install. JMO Gregg

Mustang II IFS will work but you will have to over come a lot of problems.First off they look like **** .The second thing is your car will not weigh very much and the handling will be **** .And the very last thing is they look like **** on model A's .My 2 cents If you want a sports car build a sports car Good luck

Really? I have had tons of good advice given to me here and seen plently given to others. Yeah there are a lot of goofy opinions also but believe me if you can't find good advice here, you probably don't really want it!
And look at his thread he asked for personal opinions ;)

did you have that body on the frame when you chopped it?

LOL if you're gonna build a sports car you sure as hell would not use a MII suspsension... wtf?

You have to really want to put a MII in a model A... bubble the splash apron, bubble the fenders if you're putting fenders on, and you've still got a car with a resale value that's way, way lower than the exact same model A with an axle. You won't notice the difference in the ride (like ^ said it'll probably ride better with the axle because of the weight), and you'll be able to stick around here a bit longer ;)

    off topic:
Man, don't bother changing your name. The more time you spend trying to figure out how you can be "accepted" around here will probably mean you won't be. This is an incredible group of guys, girls, young and old (ish), but who don't appreciate someone trying to be something they're not. Be yourself, read, read, read, and read. And don't put a MII on your A ;)
