OK, I hate glass just as much as the rest of you but........ I want to put together a cheap car to run around in while I build my gasser. I would love a T touring body. (Call em what you will, Tub, Phaeton, etc....) I have been looking but cant find anyone that does glass re-pops. Anyone know if someone does? A link to them or contact details would be very appreciated. Thanks, Doc.
Here ya go http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1424,342_1926-27-T-Fiberglass-Body.html?itemNo=fiberglass they also do 23 bodies as well
Poli-Form have discontinued theirs and Wescotts dont have one listed, thanks though mate. Thats a Roadster body, not a Touring car. Doc.
Someone did. a 26-7 touring. I think it was Gibbon but that was 30 years ago so don't hold me to it. We went to Columbus in 78 to check out its new introduction. I was building the T frame from the drawings in Rod Action at the time. I ended up with a steel roadster.
Yeah, may look into an A or jus go with a roadster body, the Speedway 27 looks good. A tub would be good, use the back like a ute. Doc.
Back in the early Seventies, Andy Brizio built a number of cars using fiberglass bodies that were built by Steve Archer, who made some '23 phaeton bodies. You could call Roy Brizio's shop to see if they know if Steve is still around. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Wasn't there a 'glas Tub buildup series in Streetrodder about 5 years ago ? I forget the manufacturer, but it came with a 'glas toneau cover on the back.
They all discontinued their T touring bodies, I think Wescotts make a A pheaton, but it's more than a roadster. I made me 2 buckets and plan on slicing and dicing them over a steel framework to make one... next year.
Yes that was Poli-Form and Weedeter. They used Toyota rear ends with some neat suspension bits.......air and torsion I believe?
Poli-Form made the ultimate 26-27 T touring body hoping to start or take advantage of a "new" trend. Didn't happen, shame too, it was absolutely super. Several folks over the years have made 23-25 T Touring shells, perhaps from a mould that gets resold every few years. There has been a guy running auctions for them on eBay in the past year or two. They are shell bodies with 2 doors on the right side. What it boils down to is that real steel T stuff is still available all over the place and still isn't worth much. Not that the cars aren't fun but the resale prices seldom equal the builder's investment.
GMC Bubba did have one earlier this year. Haven't seen it around when I'm at the shop but that doesn't mean it's not stashed somewhere else out of sight. PM him and see if he still has it
Steve Archer passed away a number of years ago. Great guy lot of help when I used on of his 32 bodies back in 1976. Andy/Roy might know of any molds left.
Why not get 2 '23 buckets, narrow the front one so the sides line up, and presto, 'one '23 touring. We built several over the years for customers at Rod 'n Race.
Great minds think alike! The floor and my pants had the same amopunt of resin on them... Push... push.... Breathe... A bouncing baby bucket Oh and here's the second one next to a steel 26-27 They are both 3 layers of mat and 1 layer of cloth, the rest of the thickness will be layered over the steel structure. The mold belonged to a buddy (He's a HAMBer), he has since sold it. Thanks Skip!
My sons and I made a STEEL tub body. We used a '46 Ford deck lid for the rear wrap-around, '16 Maxwell doors on the side, and a Model A cowl skin and firewall (turned inside out), all parts found at swap meets for about $200. We integrated the beench seat riser into the body for strength. It works great and is unique.
OldTin in Australia would have a STEEL one, and probably cheaper than a US glass body with the current exchange rate! Give em a call!
Here's a guy on the hamb that has molds for the 26-7 touring... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301961
o.k i'm pretty sure this is the guy i've been looking for. i emailed him and he emailed me back this pick. seems like a pretty decent deal to me.
Doc, I was looking thru a Bonneville Racing newspaper tonite at a mate's place and in the Poliform add they had a 27 tub listed. swifty
No help, I know, but I remember Tex Collins, at Ford Duplicators in North Hollywood built a complete, running 'glass "T" touring in about 63/64. I think even the hood was 'glass, Stock running gear. A kid at my high school worked for Tex and drove it in a few times. I believe the kid was related to Curt Hamilton.
Hey Doc , have a look over your back fence , theres guys makin' them right there in Sunny ( rainy ) Qld , go and buy one and half T bucket bodies off Ian Cameron and you'll be on the road in no time I had a couple of '27's in the '70's , couple of '23's in the '80's , the moulds were in Sydney , dont know where they ended up , cheers
How much and who's selling them???? I'm in NY would need to be shipped!! F-me that's my favorite body style. I think the market is small though as you can still get real steel if you know where to look or know the right people.
I can't beleive that you living in Oz can't find a touring body you guys have been sending them to the states for years, one of your mates shipped over a trailer that he made from the back half of a 28 touring I ended up buying it and the cowl was shipped later it was a good body, Howdy Leadbetter bought it from me and built the Haley Kart, a clone of the Ala Kart, look around a steel rusty body is going to look better as a hot rod than a slick glass one....................
