Ok so the wife is already hounding me about xmas gifts.

I just told her to get me the "how to build a traditional hot rod" book. I saw it on a thread on here and thought it would be cool to add to the library.

And since we are newly weds her family wants to get me a gift, I said to just get our child more gifts but they insist. So I need ideas.

What are you asking for if you still get gifts. I can't wait til the time when I dont get gifts. I would rather just spend time with the fam and eat food.

    Thanks JC

  2. Gift certificates work well.

If that doesn't fly (my in-laws don't think those are personal enough), ask for a GC to a good restaurant & a babysitting coupon from them, so's you can take their daughter out for a well-deserved night off. This seems to work out well for a lot of the people involved. ;)

Beyond that, give 'em a list of books from Motorbooks/B&N/Borders, etc.....or a list of shop chemicals/oil/filters...something you can use. I never ask for tools because I am likely to get something I didn't want for whatever reason.

Tools. You can't have too many. Ask for the ones you might not buy yourself: Gear Wrenches come to mind. Or Stubby wrenches. You'll use the GearWrenches all the time, and the Stubby wrenches will make life soooo much nicer. When you need one, nothing else works better.

My wife got me a $69 parts washer from Harbor Freight for Valentine's day a couple years ago, and I love it. It's a great tool to have in the garage.

My mother-in-law got me a cheap dollar-store set of tooth-brush style brushes about 8 years ago: two nylon bristle brushes, a wire brush and a br*** wire brush. I use the hell out of those. Great stocking stuffer if you feel guilty about getting bigger tools, and you'll use it.

Mechanic's grabber fingers, magnet and/or mirror. (Get Craftsman ones).

    Inexpensive bench grinder.

    That should get you going.

Gosh, I just so happen to have 4 original Somberos hanging in my garage waiting to be place on my '54! I better keep you at a distance.

We just picked our Christmas Gift this weekend and it just so happens to be a 6 month old American Pitbull Terrier named Action Jackson form a rescue in Atlanta.

Car wise I would just like a Welder and perhaps some tools if I can. If I get none of that, I'll still got the dog so I'm happy.

See you there, we're driving! The Christmas gift for me would be plates for my son's 54 Chevy truck and the ability to use them!
