The damn city of Houston says I need 3 written estimates submitted to them. The estimates should be with a letterhead of some sort. Here's a list of the parts that I saw as damaged and the prices for replacement pieces.

    (2) Spring shackles: $30.00
    (2) Spindles: $198.00
    Steering arm: $35.00
    (2) Lower steering arms: $115.00
    Tie rod: $60.00
    Drag link: $60.00
    (4) Clevis pins: $40.00

    Rebuilt Transmission: $2,395.00
    Transmission crossmember: $60.00
    Battery: $90.00
Wire wheel assy. with brakes: $1,941.00
    Brake pedal assy.: $98.00
    Throttle cable assy.: $48.95
    Engine fan: $50.00
    Alternator bracket: $49.00
    (4) Body mounts: $20.00
    (2) Headlight posts: $99.95

Tow service from storage lot to my location: $250.00
    _____________________________________________________
    Total parts cost: $8,962.66

Guys, I need this VERY badly! They are being real buttholes about this. Add hours onto it and if you think my prices are too low, change them. You can either email it to me or PM me for my fax number or mailing address.

    Thanks in advance.

My advice is to get a lawyer. I run a shop, but from what I see you are close to a total loss. I don't know what you have in your ride, but the tub and engine seem to be all thats left. I can see them saying all kinds of things to get out of paying including going after any shops that participated in the build. They are gonna claim it was unsafe or some shit. Get some apprasials on similiar cars to show them. A car isn't necessarly worth what it cost you to build unless you can prove value. Like I said lawyer up.

While I would not recommend sticking it up their ass, I'd do it anyway. ;)

...and break it off at the handle...

Did your lawyer say anything about going after the police officer for some of the liability .He would come after you if the shoe was on the other foot. My 2 cents Good luck

It doesn't work like that. The city has to pay, but they are VERY slow when it comes to paying claims on property and physical damage and they tend to put you through a ton of crap. At first, all they wanted was pics of the car. Now they want 3 estimates. I'm not even going to get into my thoughts about the cop. One day the shoe will be on the other foot and he'll know how it feels to get f**ked over.

Didn't I say CMX from the get go? Thought I did. Matt will get you a fair estimate.

If you can get it to CMX I'll put a 2nd estimate together and that will be 2 down.

FYI - parts are usually 25% of the cost of the job. Sounds as if they owe you 36,000 more or less.

PM me. Let me know what I need to do.

Okay guys, I'm gonna make this as simple as I can. Take the prices I have and fudge them if you want, then add labor. Put it on a letter head and email it too me.

It can't be that hard... can it? I'm just trying to submit some crap to the damn city of Houston. It doesn't have to be accurate, but I have to send something.

I would hire an independent appraissor. I am in the body shop business in MD. I don't know about down there, but in MD they cannot require you to get 3 estimates, you can have your vehicle repaired where you want.

If I could afford it, I would. I'm freaking broke. I'm trying to make ends meet. This crap is REALLY starting to get to me. I'm gonna hang in there, but I may need a little help.

  17. Did you call Clive? This shouldn't be such a hassle, have you never made an insurance claim?

not trying to hassle you, but has it definitely established that he ran the light? and shouldn't your insurance co be doing the running around? did the issue with the insurace agent get resolved by CHROME? my GF had her car hit slightly by a CoH detective, took some lawyerin ' to get things resolved. If I can be of any help, let me know.

Just got your email. You good now? Let me know. I'm back in Houston next week.

  22. Cool. He used to be a Constable, so he knows a little about the law, and as a shop owner, has dealt with insurance companies for decades.
