So I was extremely excited to purchase my T Roadster and finally take it to Good Guys after a long lull of Daily Driven family cars. I finally get something to pull in and rest my legs around instead of being the creepy guy that lurks around the show and talks to no one. :D

This year looks no different. I recently found a blown intake gasket on the Roadster so I pulled it apart in hopes to purchase a new gasket set easily without and hitches. Boy was I wrong. I would like to thank the few people that actually no less then me at AUTO ZONE for screwing me twice this week with two set of wrong gaskets. First couple wasted days included them giving me exhaust manifold gaskets which was dumb then I said '65-'67 Intake manifold again and they thought the '64 should fit fine seeing how they don't even carry the '65-'67 ones. Not everything was a disappointment though. A wise man named MODIFIEDDRIVER once told me that education is not free and that we have to pay our dues. I have learned a great deal about the engine (including part numbers burned into my brain, and that the Buick 300 is a mother fucker) in this experience so I am chalking it up as a win.

So I guess, I will be riding with my good buddy Ron (BLOODYKNUCKLES) to the show tomorrow with the HAMB banner and some treats (compliments of my wife). Come by if you get chance and say hello.

Thanks to Jeremy James, Bloody Knuckles, Hotdamn, Modifieddriver, Oddrod Garage, and a big thanks to Big O for the help on the intake. It looks awesome.

See you guys tomorrow no excuses allowed.

get some gasket material and make one....:D

Like I should be talking... I am thinking of driving down in something besides the Buick. It seems without the exhaust run all the way it likes to fill the interior with noxious fumes... Well and it's really fucking loud.

ZMAN, not that this is going to be a surprise but I am fairly new to engines in general. What would I make one out of? They are not cork but a steel with some sort of coating on them. Any ideas? I would jump on the chance to make one in a second.

Ive had good luck with a product called "the right stuff" made by Permatex. Pretty common in any auto parts store. Good luck.

  7. I'm flattered with your positive comment.

I always say, education costs $money$, how smart do ya' wanta' be? Can come in any form like: tuition, books, bad luck, listening to bad advice, screwing up and refixin', etc. or just plain doin' something stupid. I've done them all and I'm still learning by spending $money$.

AND ........ This will gain you a discount on your buy-back. Cost of education just got less expensive!!!!!!!!!

Lesson learned here is do your homework before ya' have some yahoo do it for ya'!!

Right now I'm waiting for a UPS shipment of parts for my SBC 383 stroker engine project. I'm wondering how much stuff I ordered will be wrong!! I'll just put the wrong stuff on the shelf with the rest of my mistakes.

Gotta' go, UPS just pulled in the driveway (no shit!!).

I know, BLOODYKNUCKLES is pushing me to make my own gaskets as ZMAN stated before. Not sure hot good they will turn out but I have one thing, it's a steady hand to cut those gasket out tonight. There may just be hope for us yet! Now I just need t get the Boss off my back so I can leave work early.

Any ideas or pics of what home made gaskets look like or what what works?

Oh and Ron, while you were in SPAIN, ModifiedDriver and I became like Russo Japanese War buddies. He said that I can come get my mistake but I have to bring you along to SC. Sound good?

  11. Too bad I'm not closer. I have made many industrial gaskets and would be happy to help out. Hope to see you AND your T tomorrow!

  12. Fuck!! How'd I get snookered into that one?

    Damn...wish I could make it.

    Trucks running good to.

But, luck is not on my side

Just fell in to the swimming pool while leaf blowing...

I think my last though was SHIT I'm about to get electrocuted...but the blower is gas powered, so all I got was lungs full of two stroke smoke, and then the chlorine water.

Worst part is I f'ed my back up... and my IPHONE was in my pocket.

Oh well...just another day in my home remodel hell.

Actually....things were going too smooth in my life so this is certainly humbling...I deserved it...hahaha

Your first mistake was going to Auto Zone. Go to NAPA, and tell them what you need, do it now and you can get it fixed and drive it. If that doesn't work follow the other recommendations above. Hell, if the old ones aren't too torn up, clean them and everything else up, smear them with silicone and reuse them till you get the new ones. This is a simple repair, if you don't do it, don't complain about not getting to drive.

  16. That's real EZ to answer. HEATHER :D. I wouldn't be screwin' around with any of you if it wasn't for her!!!! I didn't make her trip down here as a requirement, but I should've :( .

Only kidding, your presence is optional.

AND ............... I just got done looking through the UPS stuff I just received. I don't see any screw-ups :) .

Instead of GGC, I'll be here screwin' around with my stroker. Ya' know, that's kinda' like "Polishin' my Johnson" ;) .

  17. Oh, he'll fix it! Don't you worry about it.

  18. For that matter, you CAN make gaskets out of cereal boxes! Just coat both sides really good with RTV and take care installing them!

Paying your dues is never easy - you have the right attitude about it - learn and move on. Trust me it doesn't get better. Matter of fact now more than ever it REALLY urks me when I buy something for a SPECIFIC application - the part was supposedly designed to fit my motor - well god-damn-it I EXPECT it to fit. Actually fitting happens less than you might think. Some people tell me THAT'S HotRodding - I say bullcrap - it's piss poor engineering, manufacturing, whatever.

Ok ok - I've ranted too much already. ;-(

ANyways good luck with your project!!!

BTW - when you have "oddball" motors - it pays to stock some spares. Heck with todays high turnaround "parts stores" it pays to keep an inventory of stuff for a SBC for chrisakes.
Have fun - pretty soon you'll be helping someone else figure their stuff out!!!

You might try calling the NAPA on South Blvd. They are pretty good about using the books for older stuff. They could probably get you their part #. And tell you if their warehouse on Wilkerson Blvd has it, or if it has to come in from elsewhere.

Called the local Autozone several years ago and a female answers. I tell her that I'm quote: "working on a Dinosaur and need an intake gasket set for a 68 Road Runner 383." I get put on hold and she comes back and tell me that they don't have any listing for a "1968 Dinosaur Road Runner" and was I sure that the year was correct. I tell her to check to see if they had one for a Plymouth, because they were interchangable. To be fair, I've run into several females working the parts counter that were amazing in their knowledge, but she wan't one of them.

I had a NAPA guy call around today and the closest one is in Atlanta. I know from now on to call NAPA first. Actually the guy a car quest was awesome too! he call the manufacturer and machine shops seeing if he could locate one close. No such luck. After this show I am pulling the engine out for a 322 Nailhead to see if I'll have better luck finding parts. Haha!

  27. I went in to our local Carquest for a front seal for a big block chev..When I got home, the seal was a way to small. More like something for a lawn mower..
I think they do it on purpose ,just because they can..

If it isn't on the computor screen, it was never made !!!!
