How much did you spend on your steering wheel?

Just curious as to what you guys are actually spending on steering wheels -

I let a beautiful vintage Volvo steering wheel get away from me a couple of months ago because I figured more than $75 was too much - I got outbid and haven't seen another as nice since.

So how much is too much? I want an authentic, but lets face it on ebay some of these go for the same prices as new aftermarket ones.

Obviously rare wheels are more expensive, but a decent mid- 50's with horn ring can bring as much as $100?

Hundreds. $1k+ if it's right and the level of the car deserves it. Can make or break the car. AND you spend a lot of time looking at it, so you better like it!

Spent $ 500.00 for my reproduction banjo from Juliano's, sound's like way to much but like said earlier in this post, you better like it, cause you gotta look at it everytime you drive. I can relate to your e-bay experience, I've been trying to buy some cool looking vintage boat steering wheels for another project Im working on, they alway's sell for more than Im willing to bid, guess Im a tight wad. :D

$15.00 on ebay, no one else bid on it, friend painted it white pearl for free, horn ring was clean enough, didn't need to replate, put a bullet that I had laying around for the center.

I got a flat 4 spoke sprint car wheel for 20 bucks a few years back for my 49.

I could see spending $150.00 for a nice old style wheel if I were to go in another direction. they are out there, you just have to hunt.

  13. $25 shipped..from a fellow Hamber..i like the old foam grip 3 spoke with the drilled holes..cheap ya, but in the topolino, i found that even at a mear 11" diameter it is probably going to be tight between it and the door..thought about looking around for a drag type "V" or ****erfly wheel..but don't know what that would be like for every day driving.............my Astre i just sold had the 9" chrome chain type..i liked it, was even comfortable in the pontiac and it was manual steering......[IMG]

$25 with the 40 Buick column. That column came with a super ***** oval column cover....
The rim is something I bought on the HAMB cl***ified's. I bent the spokes upward to weld to the smaller tubular rim as the original 40 Buick rim was HUGE and was nothing but a rusted skinny piece...
The plastic black widow was about 23 cents.
    Yeah, I'm a cheap bastid.

I got a cool red metal flake wheel with perfect chrome out of the city dump. Not a scratch on it, probably never put on a car. It's hanging on my wall waiting for the perfect project.

  17. Cool Rocky! I dig that one more than the one you made for the 33!

  18. Paid $200 for the wheel and column out of a 50 buick. Cut the column down and made it fit in the shoebox.

Paid $140 for an old gold flake wheel that's in great shape. I guess the really nice, old ones go for that much....

    Looks like this one:

I spent 300.00 on a 57 corvette wheel with the horn ****on. Wanted one for years and stumbled across this one at a good price for an original with the horn ****on.

I have about $1400 invested, and still have to have the chrome redone for it to be perfect.

I like what X38 said. Well said X38...
You have to be happy with the wheel and the deal. You have to pay enough to get what you want without bein' pissed about how much you paid for it every time you get in the car.
As you can see from what HAMBers replied a few hundred bucks and up is not out of the question for some wheels.

That's too cool. Love to see what you do for a center nut cover.

Damn, some of you have really gone all out on your wheels - and I have to agree, getting something I want to spend time looking at - without getting upset about how much I spent on it, hard middle ground to find....
