Congrats. Did I see that same A on craigslist? If so, it looked tempting. Have it ready by the next Rev Em & Roll reliability run that will be in KC sometime next spring.

    good luck

Great start to a new hot-rod. Maybe you should check with Gray and see if he's got any parts for sale????:D TJ

    Haha... Thanks, David!

...uh, just give me about three weeks ;):D

Yeah, Tuck said he also saw it on Craigslist for a while.

Hmm, now that IS an attainable goal! Bonneville, it is!

I just might need to rob some parts off his roadster before he sells it :D
    See you guys on Saturday!

Can you build a Hot Rod with an engine other than a small block Chevy?

That looks like a real nice start Nick. I'll be watching for updates. I can see why you would want to use a y-block, Speeding tickets have gotten quite expensive. Good luck with the build.

wow looks to be a great start.. you'll be edjamacated in model A's in no time i'm sure.. no better place to get the schoolin!

  14. Cool on the Y-block.

Little brother built a nice one for his 54 Ford sedan that grampa bought new.

Dual quads, 55 T-Bird headers upside down, sort of a Tri-Y when we got done, dual quads, Engle Cam, Mallory coil, C-6, Mercury Spicer 4.27 rear - he stuck 4.88's in it later on.
Was hell off the line and would pull the left front tire a couple inches off the ground on the street.

Anyhoo, am I right in thinking the Y-Block may be a somewhat inexpensive build when compared with a flatmotor, Nailhead, Rocket etc.?

Nice score. Looks like a real solid project. I like the ford in ford idea. I had that for my 30 coupe but everyone says run a sbc. So I have two 302's and a 283 and a 350 to choose from. Anyway looks like you got a real good start to an awsome roaster.

Maybe you could use some 14 inch keystone Klassics instead of cragars. Give Josh a call I think he has an extra set.

Jay, sorry I haven't had time to measure those drums yet - I'll get to it soon, I promise . ...it's been an extremely busy week.

I've looked into Y-block parts just a little. I'm really hoping to not have to sink much money into the one I have, since it's been rebuilt and is 'supposed' to be good. (I also have lines on a couple other cheap, running Y-blocks) The rebuild parts prices I've seen don't seem too bad - of course more than a SBF or SBC. I don't know what the other (older) vintage engines are like for rebuild parts/prices, but I'd say it's a safe assumption that the Y-block is somewhat less expensive.

Also, thanks to everyone for the kind words, advice, and help. I've been lucky enough to actually meet many of you in the past few years and I feel very fortunate.

A large number of you guys & gals have had more of an influence on me than you think. I'll call it a 'bad' influence, but in a very good way :D
Ya'll are a bunch of great people - Thank you!

That body looks nice and straight...good start. I really like the '35-'36 Ford dashes in an A roadster.

Here's my '29 on deuce rails. I'm building it pre-1947, with a '46 59a flathead, '42 Ford truck trans./rear with open drive, '35 Ford wirewheels, hope to start on it soon...

Nice, Paul.... I'm thinking you should paint your Nova that way, too!

Oh yes, Keystones all the way!

Cool project Nick, wish they came that solid and straight around here.

Those ram horns are cool, rare aren't they?

  29. What the hell is wrong with a Y-block? He could be stickin' a SBC in it like everybody else ... Good choice ... Y-block ... :)
