Every so often I get a small break in between my carbie build commitments and the unfertal mind of mine kinda kicks in with an idea for something a little different. Well, here is my latest creation and I don't think I have ever done or seen anything quite like it other than the slingshot I built a couple of years ago for a most gracious HAMB'er. This little jobbie is a bit over the top but boy-O-boy was it fun to thrash it out. Can anyone tell me what they are looking at here?
I'm glad you finally posted these photos cuz if not I was going to let the cat out of the bag in my soon to come GG Bowling Green adventure thread.
That looks fantastic! Would I be correct in guessing some sort of LPG set up? Do I get a Noddy Badge?? P.
Looks like some Early Ford, Maybe Y Block Stromberg Vintage marine carbs with Custom made adapters to an Early Chevy 2 X 4 manifold. What ever it is, Very Nice pluming work and Double Kool WOW factor. The Wizzard
Tha's exactly what Linda told me. She told me that I made a big mistake showing them to you if I didn't want anyone to see or know about it. Boy, was she right. Haha, I beat you to the punch. Oh, by the way, HAPPY HALLOWEEN. And don't fill your tummy with to much candy cause it will give you a tummy ache!
Wow, lookin' at some of these anmswers tell em allyall have a very imaginative mind, but so far you are all wrong. And I CAN use this old dual quad intake as I have a bunch just hangin' around. So, you got that part correct.
OK, here's MY guess. And it's just a guess, as I'm not good at I.D.'ing old 2 BBL carbs. Offy dual quad intake for a SBC w/2 4BBL to 2 BBL adapters, with 2 early 50's Merc 2 BBl's and a lot of trick machined aluminum (fuel logs, oil fill tube, etc)
Hmmmmm, leemee see...one dual four barrel manifold, four McColloch chain saw carbs, two air cleaners of unknown variety, one fuel rail and several intake lines...oh sure, now I see it -- it's a recirculating rebreathing hyper drive intake verometer... R-
I think the carb cleaner fumes are getting to ya Dick. My first thought was '49 Merc carbs but what the hell do I know. lol Cool factor is off the charts though.
I'm thinking Groucho is correct with the 49-50 Merc carbs. Those may be commercial 4bbl to 2 bbl adapters between carb and manifold. Was common for the circle track stock car gang - who were restricted to 2 bbls only regardless of factory 4 bbl or not - to use these upside down on a 4 bbl intake since it enlarged the plenum a bit and the thinking was they flowed better than a stock 2 bbl intake. Carb of choice for the circle burners was a Rochester 2 bbl from a Pontiac since they had the largest venturi's and throttle blades so as to attain the most intake flow. Probably why you can't find a Pontiac 2 bbl to save your life nowadays... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Geez Roger, you got a helluva imagination. Maybe you ought to take up writing or something....
Early Merc carbs were 4 bolt base as was Olds carbs of same rear air horn style. Maybe it's Merc tops with Stromberg 3 bolt base on them to the manifold adapter. The Wizzard
How about Studebaker carbs? No idea brand or number but remeber a '53 with two of them around hear several years ago.
Being a Good Carb guy I think he did some Mix and Match but started with a Early Holly Lincoln style 2 bbl and did a KooL job. I'm done thinking for Today. The Wizzard
That was my 1st thought. But, I kinda remember the carbs on Tom Branch's roadster being less bulky than the ones pictured.
It looks like the carbs from an aircraft engine...i believe maybe a Lycoming...They look very similar. Man...you got me baffled. Mott
