Thank you 'Old Tech Inspector' so much for sharing your memories ... I'm sure we all appreciate (and ENJOY!) your posts ... wish my 'gray matter' was working 'half as well.' Please keep it up! Best Regards ... Steve
My good friend Garley Daniels' stockers, E/S '57 210 sedan circa 1966, J/S '57 sedan delivery circa 1968 and his N/S '56 Chevy circa 1970.
"Anyone remember the name Jim Fagan?" Yes, He got a bit of ink in the Nat'l Dragster ... or was it 'Drag Times' ... or perhaps it was 'Mid Eastern Drag News.' Either way ... *he (*as well as Garley Daniels) is NOW on 'The LIST'! PS: I was 'just wondering' ... it seems the "Stock-S/S-F/X 1959-1966" thread ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=247089&highlight=super+stock+fx ) has pretty-much 'died' after (about) eight months ... Alas, I guess these 'niche' threads have a very-short 'life span.'
Here's another eastern NC racer, Ed McGlawhorn's "Mr. Ed" '56 Chevy circa 1965, "Mr. Ed Jr" '55 sedan circa 1967 and M/SA '56 sedan delivery circa 1969.
" ... Lumley & Sanders's I/SA '61 Pontiac wagon" Lumley & Sanders ... yes! They were a real 'crowd pleaser' ... forgot about them. I should 'remember,' cause if they 'pulled in' I just put it 'back on the trailer' ... Ooopps! I mean 'tow bar.' 'Geeese,' seems my long-term memory 'synapse' are really FRIED!
jim sartwell drove mostly corvairs in the early days. very sucessful. i am happy you added Bob Luck. he always kicked butt in the "little terror' 57. i'll research the other names i gave you. Hubert Buttry drove the "Rompin Redskin" 62 impala. Don Royster was a pontiac man, butt i'll have to call him. maybe I could get him to come to mason dixon this sunday. and dont forget to look for my 63 "Loving Chevrolet" sunday and intro yourselves.
i wish i could recall the name of the guy who used to come into superior transmissions in Silver Spring, md. while i worked there.......he had a camaro stocker very very sucessful then in the early 80's he switched and spent all of his time racing a citation X11. sorry to bring this up with no more other clues. if i hear his name i will know and so will the rest of you. what about Bobby Warren? or Sonny Stull? both still racing stockers.
BTW: if i dont bring the old white Z11 (look-a-like) to the track this sunday nov2, i will bring my old A/S 409-425 red 63. (the last 409-425 SS Impala to go downtrack 75-80) here it is oct. 30 05. damn........3 years already i would like to meet any of you. but if you dont see a 63.....it aint me.
RE: "Sonny Stull" ... can you provide me/us with a few more details? ... and (by the way) RE: " ... racing a citation X11" ... 'Geeese,' I thought Linda Sherman was the only 'X car' racer back then!
Now THAT'S a bit DIFFERENT! ... there sure were a lot of '57 Deliverys, but not very many 283 (HP) 283's. They 'flew,' but didn't 'fit' too well in the class. KUDOS! on your post Bob ... very-nice-touch adding the time card! PS: FYI --> http://www.masondixondragway.com/directions.htm
OK ... here, for your 'viewing pleasure,' is (thanks to my girlfriend ... Ooopps!, make that ... 'My Lady Friend') is 'THE LIST' alphabetized! Steve, You left out Tony Pizzi. You can add Ron Garey, Norm Fryer and LAW Automotive to your list. Also, does anyone know who drove the 57 sedan delivery that had Trenton Speed Shop on it? Bob
I notice you say "hydro". Was a trans swap legal in /SA classes if it never was offered in the vehicle?
Thought of a couple more supercharged 312 Fords. Larry Walker's 2 door sedan that was featured in Car Craft and some local guys, the Goodson Brothers, Raymond and Bobby. They ran the 312 in four different '57 bodies, a 2 door wagon, a sedan delivery, a 2 door sedan and a Thunderbird.
NHRA considered the sedan delivery to be a truck. Hydramatics were available in Chev and Gmc trucks therefore you could use a hydramatic in a sedan delivery. BTW GMC trucks used Pontiac engines.......and a Corvette engine was never available in a sedan delivery or any truck.
the red 409 car i have owned 33 years and have plenty of pics. the white 427 car i have only had about 7 years or so. what would you like to see? and thanx for asking.
