Here are some shots taken at Manhattan, KS in April of 1969 that I have been looking for over the past few weeks. It is either a repaint of the car that was previously posted or maybe a second "Match Race" car as lettered on the trailer. It is a little strange the the car is so plain, no decals etc.

It was their 68 car. That set up with enclosed trailer is really a sophisticated approach for that era.

It looks brand new. Might be why there's no decals on it yet. Damn cool car.

This isn't too old of a drag car, but I get a kick outta it being a Vega AND completely flipping...(and I DIG Gasser's shot of that GTO)

  10. That's not a Vega... it's a AMC Gremlin... the guy has been running it for years and also competing in wheelie contests too.

And again from the great Northwest yet another example of an unknown, albeit, a really cool race car.

Ivo rolls-out in the Barnstormer at what looks like San Gabriel with those power lines in the background. Mazooma? Anyone?

OK i need your guys help. we have a friend who used to drive a funny car that had 1320 warrior on it and a big spear going down the side. it was white pearl and candy colors down the side.
the owner driver was Louie roundpoint he was a big Indian dude.
we want to surprise him with a pic of it. the body was a pontiac firebird that he cut down the middle to make it narrower it was ran in the 60's or seventy's.any pics would be greatly appreciated.

    Injected gas/alky circuit car, no?

  19. Tom McCrea, first off,GREAT set of photos. Here is a Pete Garimone shot of the car, prior to your photo, with NO lettering yet, then a Yates shot of it after your shots.I believe this is the same chassis as the 68 split-window Corvair that Art Ward drove, just a newer body. Dennis Doubleday

  28. I think this was posted earlier too.

One Sunday afternoon at Pomona in '63 Bones was driving John's Vette, and Rollie Gravel was driving my roadster at the time. Both cars had won class, and paired up for trophy runs. (remember those?) What no one knew was that the drivers had talked, and agreed to toss the laundry simultaneously. Picture it. Both cars in Junior's candy persimmon, polished mag wheels, and matching 16' red, white and blue Diest ring slots. When both chutes blossomed in the shut off area, I went nuts, Maz went nuts, and as Mr. Frye would say.........."the crowd went wild"!

Sundays at Pomona were cool in the 60's. :D:D

man that is so cool that you guys have that. you don't know how many time my buddy told me about that car when we would be drinking in the shop late at night after work. his name is Harry Burnett, he used to work for Louie at his shop when he was a kid. he told man i remember when Louie brought this car in i watched him tie it to the rafters hanging it. he got it and cut it in half right down the middle. for some reason it was to wide for the regulations, i think. Harry told he said hey kid you want to learn how to glass? he said hell yeah!
Harry told man i got suckered. he told me get under it and start glassing it together. he said back then he had a beard and long hair. and when he was done he had to go shave his face and head, cause it was full of resin.
    thanks again !!
