Yeah, thats the story a friend told me except that Harley Davidson paid the 2 million for the bike and it is in their museum now. The tractor trailer load oy new Harleys started back in the 1920's when a train car was found on a siding full of World War ONE Harley twins that never got shipped overseas. :)

Read somewere that the Easy Rider bike was/is owned by Dan Haggerty, the guy from the Grizzley Adams TV show.

  4. the Easy Rider "Capt. America" bike has never been found has it?

That bike would be right up there with T.E. Lawrences Brough, Rollie Free's Vincent, and god knows what else.

I have a 50's book on sports car specials. The Dean car was in a wrecking yard and the engine and trans were salvaged and used in a special. This is when it was just a wreck. The collecting craze was in the future.

As was mentioned, Ryan know's of the car's whereabouts per his own words in a thread a couple years back..But that's all that was mentioned out of respect for who has it i believe.

Like most, i've read a ton of interesting, yet possibly nonsense story's regarding what happened to it.or it's parts.
fact is, whoever know's or has it obviously dosn't want the info out..
It may take a turning of possetion due to ill health or something like that for it to resurface, if it ever will..

All i know is someday i will build a "kit" 550 for myself..may even have the JD marking's on it :)

Used to hear a similar story years ago, with a slight variation. Supposedly happend to someone in Oklahoma (heard Texas Panhandle, too). The bike was a gift TOO Elvis, not from him, and it was supposedly bought sight unseen by Jay Leno, who mysteriously called the owner out of the blue, even though only a few of his friends knew of his "discovery" Yeah, good stuff. Who knows, they say that there's 10% truth to every legend, some part of the story might have happened to somebody, somewhere, sometime. Then again.....

  13. Fact, the only time I ever saw that Porsche was in the lobby of Gramans Chinese Theater in Hollywood at the premier of "Rebel without a cause" my dad worked at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel across the street and was given tickets for opening night. took the whole family.
I didn't like seeing the car or the hype

  14. Here's everything I know on the car. It was a Nightmist Blue '67 GT500 (no LeMans stripes), serial number 939, with a ultra rare white interior (not to be confused with parchment), 4spd, 10-spoke aluminum wheels. Given to him by Elektra Records for success with The Doors' first two albums. He had noticed and liked a GT500 before seeing one owned by his hair dresser for the band. He drove the hell out of it and it was always on the repair shop, and supposedly one night on Sunset Blvd. he ripped the front suspension out of it (or hit a pole?) behind a police station and simply left the car where it sat. From this point the car dissapears, presumably being towed away and impounded, unclaimed and s****ped. BUT the possibility of it existing somewhere today is certainly true.

Captain America Easy Riders Chopper; there were two identical choppers originally built by Cliff Vaughn for use in Easy Rider. One was wrecked at the end of the film. The other was reportedly stolen, likely sold for parts by a thief unaware of its significance.

After the filming, the wrecked bike was procured by actor Dan Haggerty, who began rebuilding it but never finished. It was then sold, the restoration being completed by Dave Ohrt. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, has graciously loaned it to the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa, where it is currently on display.

The car was purchased by someone in Miami, Fl. and being trucked there and parked overnight in Tampa, Fl. when stolen. It is now in St. Petersburg, Fl. Only 2 people have seen it. It has the wrong engine, but still has the blood on the seat.

True enough, the Captain America is on display at the museum in Anamosa. I've seen it along with a great collection including Steve McQueen's Indian.

There is a guy on the Vintage Mustang site that has claimed he knows where the Morrison car is and has supposedly been working a deal for it for over a year. Tango cl***ics or something like that.

I saw the car on the last night it was ever seen in a car show at the Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami, Fl. If it was stolen in Tampa, it was on the way back to CA and there were two major highways back then, one, hwy 101, going north to Jacksonville and the Yeehaw junction road heading towards Tampa. No interstates as we know today, but just little two lane roads. If it went to Tampa, that was a real little traveled road through the swamp. Barris said the weigh stations didn't register a change in weight on the truck, but there weren't many weigh stations back then.
I lived in St. Pete during that time and was heavily involved in the hotrod scene and never heard of the Dean car being in the area. I knew most of the players in that area and was also involved in car show promotion, having put on a car show in St. Pete in 1961. I knew most of the car club guys that did the Dinner Key shows. I am not saying it isn't in St. Pete, but that is what I remember. If I had to guess I would say it got back to CA and disappeared there. I can't imagine a truck driver not checking whether the car was loaded, and that thing didn't roll and I expect the back door was locked. Who knows.

Ya...I had always kinda figured the ELVIS story was my small home town folk lore.

But had never heard the story before it was told to me in high school around 1992...

and never heard it since except for when my pal told it back to me.

So I figured I throw it out there to see if it was circulating in any other circles.

Figured if it was a national myth we would come to the bottom here.

As for the DEAN car....my sources tell me, that it WAS stashed in FLA...but do to recent

S**** prices its now a soda can.

I would have to disagree with your sources. Even on the black market, it would be worth millions. If someone s****ped it, they sure missed the boat. I doubt someone would hoard it for 50 years and then s**** it for a few hundred. Someone, somewhere, knows the truth, but I think a death is the only thing that will bring it to light.
