Hi all. First off, I'm new here to the HAMB and just wanted to tell everybody that since I found this forum I haven't left it. I have really enjoyed all the threads that I have read and gotten tons of info from them already! I'm just in the planning stages of building a rod and would like to do a 41-46 Chevy pickup.

My boss recently told me to dig out this old Model AA truck at the shop that was put away about 15 years ago. He's looking to sell it to make some room. It looks like it was in the end stages of a restoration, close to being done. All the tin is there and in pretty good condition, all solid, no holes. From what I tell, most of the mechanical things are in the truck, minus some hoses.

Now here comes the situation... I like the truck and I think it would be a very fun project, but it is not my first choice. I would like to get everyones opinions about it and what I should do.

    Should I:
    - Just sell the truck for him as is and forget it ever existed?
    - Buy the truck and put it back to original condition?
    - Buy the truck and hot rod the living chit out of the thing?

Well, what do you think guy and girls...let me know. Let me know how much you guys think it's worth too if you could.

    Thanks,
    Josh

if you can buy it reasonable , you can use the cab, hood , grill, fenders, sell the rest off find a box , and build or buy a frame ! looks like a pretty solid piece to me

  3. Buy it and build a hot rod.

    It´s a 1928/ 29, not a 1930.

Buy it. Hot Rod it or restore it as a cool parts hauler.

    You decide.

You can strip out the original trans and rearend suspension back, shorten the frame to standard passenger/pickup length, install a stock passenger/pickup rear crossmember and spring, install a standard pickup bed, do the T5 thing for the transmission like the post today, use either a Model A or modern 8" rearend, change front spindles to standard 37-41 or 42-48 Ford and hydraulic brakes, and enjoy that little feller for the rest of your life.

Looks like a nice project if you can get into it cheap enough.

probably not worth what hes asking just to use the cab and perhaps the frame, better off to leve it to an old truck restoration, and save some $ up for the right project.

  7. Hey Man, welcome to the board. First we need to find out how much your boss feels this jewel is worth. Then is he being reasonable, delirious or just doesn't like you. Or maybe he does and just about gives it to you. Then you have a few choices to make. You can update the motor and trans. and use it to get parts, finish restoring it or use the bodywork and buy an aftermarket frame and bild a Bitchin' Hot Rod out of it and cruise the piss out of it. I like the latter idea.

It actually is a very early 30 AA, note the flat lug-style gas cap. A number of these were assembled very early in the production year before the new cabs were available or to use up the old cabs on hand. Don't ask why Ford did this stuff, just think about how little we'd have to talk about if he hadn't!

What a cool old truck. There's no way i could ever cut that one up when there are so many in bad shape that need resurrected. I'd love to drive that thing around as is.
Turn it over if your not interested as is. Man I would love to have it.

Leave it to a guy who will enjoy the truck for what it is. You can find an old AA with a crappy frame and running gear for cheap! it would be a waste

I'd pay 5k for it. looks like it could be extremely solid under all that dust a good pressure washing and tune up.

Welcome to the HAMB, you can't find a better site on the web for help & information. If you are not in love with the AA, then you should flip it and put the funds in a project you like. BIG question.......will the current owner get pissed if you turn some huge profit? Some people get bent out of shape of you make a few hunderd bucks inside a few days and hate people for life if it is a grand or more. AA trucks have limited appeal, most are bought for the cabs and fenders. It IS an EARLY 1930, ford used up leftover parts on the truck line. Note the RARE 1930 gas tank cap on the '29 tank. It's too nice not to finish as a restoration IMO.

I know of a couple people that would be interested if you come up with a price if you decide to pass it on.

You could buy it and trade it for what you want.

If you are really looking for a Chevy project there are one or two in the classifieds right now. They seem to be affordable as well.
