Projects Project "AREA 51" 51 Mercury update

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ether, May 11, 2008.

  1. Ether, I really like that colour, but in the right place. I don't think it would do justice to your work.

  2. agree....do you want to hear everyone say "doesn't that look nice....love the color", or do you want to hear "Wow.....F*&^%$# awesome" ?

Black has always been the benchmark of slick, and like most dark colours (including maroon and dark blue) really will excentuate the beautiful lines of the car, something you've been striving at for along time.

The car will look good in any color you pick, but that car deserves to be a 'benchmark' car.....black is your friend......(although it's going to hurt in the short turn.....).

    Cheers,

    Drewfus

    P.S. black or maroon;):D

I agree, well said. It will take it from "nice classic" to "kickass custom".

  7. I know its been awhile MercMan but I finally got some good pics of the front sheetmetal mount for you. I had to wait for teardown to get them and there was a little work to do to finish the mount. Hope this helps.

Ha! You should use the hitch to pull Abone's Merc home with you... Then you'd have two killer Mercs!

  20. Here is the latest if you havent been following along.

Ive started wiring in the body and the engine harness. She is running and the fuel lines are plumbed. The tech guys from Baumann Electronics are coming over tomarrow to help wire and program the 4R70W trans management system. Spaghetti anyone? It will look better after some wire looming.

A little time plumbing the brake lines, cleaning up the wiring, and hopefully a little drive around the block. Ill keep you posted ETHER

Your car is coming along great! I'm hoping mine progresses like this. It's only gonna be a mild custom. I got it bagged while I was working in Oregon. Just loaded up on parts including 2 real nice seats. I'll make a post for the car soon.

Any updates Ether? The natives are getting restless.

  26. Well its the little things that take the longest. If you rush through and do a shoddy job, everyone notices and you get to hear about it. If you take forever and make it look like it belongs, no one usually notices. I happen to be one of the worlds worst criticks! LOL

I have been doing the wiring and plumbing. Got all the fuel pressure and return lines run. Brake lines are fabbed and flared,,,,,I got brakes!!! I hung all the front accesories and made power steering hoses. The foot feet is done and air cond installed. Took a little fab work to relocate and connect the fuel filler tube. Its running and short of a few things like final programming the trans controller, setting pinion angle, shift rod, and exhaust, we are going to take her down the driveway.

Ill post a few pics if anyone is interested. Stayin' HAMBered, ETHER

    I appreciate it.

I can't go that route due to my small amount of radiator/water pump clearance, but I see where you are going with it. Thanks!

    Any more updates???

  29. UPDATE:::::Took her down the drive today!!!! Theres still a few loose ends but I still had to try it. The Merc is running a little rough but I think thats due to only about 5 inches of exhaust pipe past the 02 sensors. Im hoping to get the exhaust done Monday. Shifting is good and LOTS of torque!! Shift linkage done and short of a radiator, shes ready for an IN-PROGRESS cruize. Heres a little before pic. Hard to believe its been a year and a half, what a ride!!!! STAY TOONED ETHER
