Sounds interesting. Let us know how it works out. I am looking at turbo/blower options for the future of my 235 above. Are you running a hot cam or any other mods?

I'll be sure to do that, don't worry. Can't wait to hear it running.

    Great milage numbers!
Which engine are you running? Looks like either a 230 or a 250 Chev.

I've got a stock 230 in my '52 Dodge. I'd like to juice it up with a split exhaust manifold and a dual carb intake.

A friend of my dad's used to have an old Weapons Carrier that had a 230 flathead in it.
Learned about "foot starters" on that truck.
We called it "ol' Blue" because everything on it was blue; the body, the seats, the wheels, even the tires!
That was a fun little truck. Great for pushing over stumps! ;)

Don't underestimate the sixes. I was originally going to run a hopped up six in my old '27 T coupe so I bought a book about high performance Chevy sixes. There was a cat in there running one in a full steel bodied Chevy II and cranking 8s in the 1/4. He was sitting on about 675 horses (if I remember right). I may run a six in my next project, whatever that turns out to be.

This thread has got me wanting sell my 360 for a 232 or 258 to throw into my rambler. I've been back and forth on what I want to build ever since I get the car.

    Another convert!
    Welcome to "the club".
Just an idea, but you might want to run a 4.0 litre instead of the 232 / 258.
    Power of the 360 in a straight-six.

Here's a quick vid of a '69 Rambler running a 4.0 litre at an autocross on one of the power tours.

Anyone running a hopped up 226 flattie in their Ford?

    Would love to see that!

    Nortin,

I've got an old Sears cruise control for your car. My parents had a '72 Nova, setup just like yours.
Dad got the cruise control around '74 or '75. Its still sitting in the basement. Worked like a champ and didn't use a magnet for a sensor, either!

    93chevy55,

Right on, bruh! Don't let 'em fool ya! That stovebolt is all right!

    283Nova,

Sorry, no experience hot rodding the engine you speak of, however, performance parts for 230-250, up to '74 should fit with no problems (except maybe big valves and "performance" cylinder head).
Still, if you figure you're starting off in the 85-90 HP range for the stocker, adding a two-bbl (I'd stay away from a 4-bbl on an engine that small), headers (6-into-1, 29" primaries) and a small cam (like a 248 Crane, which imitates the Marine Cam quite nicely), I reckon you should be seeing something around 130-140 HP.
If you wanna do Fenton's, drop the gain by around 10 HP, maybe.

[NOTE: This is all theoretical. I've been playing with hopping up Nova 6's on my calculator lately. Actual result will most likely vary]

Actually, I'm writing to let you know that if you plan on keeping the 3-spd, I may have a floor shifter for you.
It sat in the basement of my parents house for years. Should still be there.
Nice chrome stem. My brother picked it up for his '56 Chevy panel back around the late 60's / early 70's to fit his 3-spd.
Don't recall if he ever used it, but he once told me it was a Hurst.
Doesn't really appear to be one, to me, though.
    ...no knob, btw.

    PM me if you're interested.

the 194 will handle a small 4b carb. (390cfm) or you can do a small 350cfm 2B carb. and at the very least clean up the ports a good 3angle valve job. Or step up the bucks and add a Lump port kit to the head.Even with the Stock size valves It will greatly improve the air flow.

  25. My 23 Dodge has a 300 ford with an offy intake 400 holly 4V headers and a mild cam. Thru a top loader 4 speed and ford 8 inch posi. It's strong off the line and verry civil at crusing speed 20 to 25 MPG. and most people don't mind that it is a six.

Using the term loosely, my truck is more of a FUN then a HOT.

Has a Chevy 250 motor with potbelly Rochesters on Offy manifold in a '29 pickup. AC, Power Rack & Pinon, hydraulic clutch, Mack Truck air horns.

  28. Back in ancient times, like the mid 60's, we ran a flat head Ford six in a 46 Ford sedan stock car. It was cheap, and well, cheap. However it was a lot of fun. Didn't really win much, but it was a hoot for a couple of teenagers to go around with the grown-ups. The low end torque coming out of the turns surprised a lot of the big money cars...............as I said, it was fun......might be interesting to use one in a HA/GR
