on the driver door hinge pillar...I think up near the windshield. Should be a little stainless steel plate spot riveted on. also they usually had a partial VIN (missing the first few digits) stamped on the driver side frame rail, just in front of the cab, on top.
Mine is about 12" up from the gas cap, on the cab, inside the door jam. Small metal plate, reads Chevrolet DD #######. About mid-way in the window area. My '64 is buried in the garage, so I can't verify any other areas. There is a data plate in the kick panel area, but not sure if the VIN is listed there.
mine is located in the drivers side door jamb dead center in the top window area.......also located in the glove box there is a build sheet with vin # and any add-ons that may have been done
OK,Heres the problem.I bought what I was told is a 65 Chevy pick-up.I was given a ***le with said pick-up that has the #C6535A133241 as the vin #.I ran the # and it comes back to a 65 one ton panel truck not a pick-up .Ive looked everywhere on the truck and cannot find a vin #.I called the guy I got it from & he said that he never had a problem w/the vin # but would do a ***le search. Yesterday he claimed that he had done a ***le search(W/out a vin #??)and the REAL vin # of the truck is C6512A133241.& that # is on the frame just below the master cylinder(NOT)...Now it gets really good! There is a tag on the top middle of the door jamb w/this # 4C144A133426 which identifies the truck as being a 64!The guy doesnt even know what year it is. Florida is a ***** when it comes to ***les & if I register it knowing that the information is false I have commited a felony ! The guy wont give my money back. What would you do??
The vin number you found o the top middle of the door jam IS the vin number of the truck. This should be varifiable by the number that's stamped on the drivers side frame around the control arm area. If they are different, then the cab has been changed at some point. The paper work he gave you with the truck looks like it's from something else.... don't know how to tell you to solve that problem, but good luck. I'd start with a ***le search on the actual truck number located in the jam... see if there is a previous (legal)owner you could contact Rich
Shame, If it was a 72, I could help ya with the paper, tag & glovebox... The 67-72chevytruck forum won't let you ask for papers on there. Can you do a ***le search in Florida to find the last registered owner and grease his/her palm to get a duplicate ***le???
Kinda makes you think you should always compare the number on the ***le to the number on the vehicle before you hand over your money. Did you find a number on the frame?
I dont know why people get all outa shape about this ****. First thing to do is a VIN search to make sure its clear & not stolen. Second is to try & contact the last REGISTERED owner.. Should get his name from the search. Then take it to the DMV, CHP, Or a PRIVATE ( thats my choice ) Vin Verifier. A private Varifier can do ALL the paper work for you. If there is no Last Registerd Owner, Have the guy that sold it to you fill out a Bill Of Sale form & a Verification Of Facts Form from the DMV saying He lost the Pink for it. Im not for sure how FLA works, But California is a pian in the *** & i have NEVER had a problem with no paper work, Only Idiots that dont know there Job. I have registerd several cars with just a LOST ***LE form from DMV. Sounds like thats where you start.. at the DMV... But only use the numbers off the truck....... DONT SHOW THEM ANY ***LE, NO ***LE IS BETTER THAN A ***LE THAT DONT MATCH YOUR VEHICLE !
I appreciate your input but the tag on the door frame is not the vin #.It is a data plate of sorts that lists the following info;4C144A133426 4=model year, C=2 wheel drive, 14= 1/2 ton shortbed, 4=pickup A=***embly plant(Atlanta) 133426=the one hundred 33 thousand, four hundred & 26th one built. I still haven't found a VIN plate.
That is the v.i.n. .. Check the frame number to see if the cab has been changed.. '64 the v.i.n. Plate is spot welded on.. 65 it will have "rosette" shapped rivits holding it on..
The "4c144... number is the vin. I think that symantics are becoming the issue here rather than helping with advise on how to solve your problem. If I've confused you somehow, I apologize. The first picture below is of the VIN plate that is located in the DOOR JAM. The second picture is of the DATA PLATE which is located on the driver's side KICK PANEL. I have a 63, a 65 and a 66. It's the same on all three. The vin number located on the vin plate (1st photo) is also located on the driver's side frame rail in the area I indicated in my previous post. As I said earlier, if the two numbers don't match, then it's clear that either the vin located on the door jam has been changed (look for the factory rivets/welds), or the cab has been changed (or the frame, whichever way ya wanna look at it). DeSoto hit it right in his post.... Determine the vin number that belongs with the truck and disregard all others. The paper work is, apparantly, wrong and you should not show/tell DMV about it as it will complicate things beyond belief. Start fresh with the truck and the vin it was born with. A ***le search is the first step and probably the most important. It might help you find the last legal owner. Might also show you if there are outstanding leins or any other problems ***ociated with it. In Nevada(for example) you can work with a salvage or tow yard to do all this for you and do a "lein sale" which will culminate in a clear ***le in your name. Don't know about your state, but the point is this. There is a way to ***le your new toy.
