Laddie Segrest (sp) who was from Waco had the Texas plate 32 Ford for years I always wondered what happened to it when he passed away and what happened to his coupe.

No pick handy, but D'Agostino has the California KUSTOM tag and has had it since the 80's.

I've always wanted the OOO GAL like on the beginning of the original gone in 60 Seconds.

Off topic but Id love to see the CA black plate JFK 007. It was originally on a Porsche 550 spyder.

  15. no picture handy ... but the the guy that started BITCHIN Products had a heck of a time convincing the DMV that it was the name of his company.

The story goes that he finally got the plate ... but later had to turn it in because it was deemed to "carry connotations offensive to good taste and decency".

  16. Not the greatest picture of the plate ... BADAZ33:

  17. That plate is from the 80's-90's before 20" Dubs existed. might have been a custom VW plate.

There was a big to-do about the "no plate" vanity tag back in the 70's here in Kentucky.

I met the guy who had it once, and saw them with my own eyes.

The car was a 67-427 Vette. He filled out the application for vanity plates, and it listed 3 choices, with the first being the most desired. His first choice was 67-427. His second choice was 427-vet... Those were the only two he wanted, so for the 3rd choice he put "no plate" on the line and mailed it off to the DMV.

A few weeks later, "NO PLATE" shows up in the mail :D
He thought about it, and decided it was kind funny, so he kept them. Within a couple weeks, he started getting parking tickets in the mail...... Yep, you guessed it, every time an officer would give a parking ticket to a car without any license plate, they would put "no plate" on the line.

His first move was to try and turn the plates in for his old ones... No dice, the originals were destroyed. So he tried to re-apply for a different vanity plate... Nope, only once per licensing period. It turned into a huge mess that involved officers at his front door with an arrest warrant for hundreds of un-paid parking tickets. Fortunately no arrest was ever made because the police officers [upon hearing his explination] used common sense! Unfortunately it ended up in front of a judge before it all got straightened out.

The next year, he applied for regular plates, but he kept his "NO PLATE" plate and showed it off to everyone.

Since then, "NO PLATE" has not been available in Kentucky.

  20. the best one i've seen yet was on the back of a pickup truck. it was about 1990 or so and i was working at a gas station in manhattan beach.

    the plate read:

    SHTHWDY

'necks should get it right off the bat.

when i asked him how he got it cleared, he said the following:

"when the clerk asked what it meant, i told her it says 'Shout Howdy'."

    i'll never ferget that one.

I want 10-99 as in stolen car or wanted person for mine, just to be funny, so when I get pulled over the cop will say

"unit 102 traffic, Main and Locust St with IA plate 10-99" Dispatcher will come back and advise "Is the vehicle 10-99 or the driver?" It would start such a dispute between the cop and the dispatcher it would be great. lol

    just for fun though.

Vanity plates as such do exist in England but not in the same format as the US.

Here they are issued by the DVLC and follow the format 2 letters 2 numbers 3 letters where the first 2 letters are the county it is issued in, the secondis the year of first registration and the the final 3 are just random numbers. They have a bit auction twice a year for the more desirable plates.

It didnt always happen like this. Back in the mists of time there were all sorts of combinations but they always included numbers and letters with a max of 3 of each, usually.

So bearing that in mind it is difficult to create vanity plates without a little imagination and artistic licence when it comes to letter spacing, positioning of the black headed bolts that hold the plate to the car and numbers being used as letters.

    4 of my favorites-

BOL 10 X (Bollox) on an old Ford capri

505 EXY (So Sexy) A famous number from the 60's seen on lots of starlets cars

8 OND (BOND) Was on an Aston Martin DB6 for years, now on a Bently Continental

JOK 3 Y (JOKEY) Was on Jimmy Tarbuck Rolls for a few years (he was a entertainer)

Lots more but those are the ones I remember.

When I was a kid in Wisconsin my friends oldest brother has the plate 'BEER 1' on his mid 70's POS Buick. I thought it was funny and told a friend of mine about it and he went out and got the Minnesota plate 'BEER 1' for his 60 Starliner. The lady at the DMV asked him for a reason he wanted that plate and he told her he was the #1 beer salesman at the liquor store he worked at. It passed whatever sniff test they have here and he still has it. Of course with that plate you can't even have one drink and go toolin around!
