Cole knows this world like no other...find everything you can by him and the early days. RIP Nitronic.
"whatever...lets go" now that says it all. I remember reading about these guys in CCSRB, and how they worked on the bottom end by tipping the dragster on its side.... Thinking to myself "wow, they just want it man"... truely a great group of guys. THANK YOU!...

I knew the ending to the story before I started reading...... it still made me cry. I've driven one for over thirty years and there is a brotherhood for drivers. Thank you for the posting, it is a nice Rememberance Day read.
read it awhile ago been trying to find it ever since, thanks for posting. thought id post this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dzz7EMl4P8 and the recreation, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_K7VhjK5k4&feature=related
Thanks East Coast 57- The Surfers had it dialled. Maths is sexy. Any old timers got photos ? This story reminds me of my recent chance to pore over a couple of Type 37A Bugatti's. Thier beauty was no surprise- What impressed me was that every part of the car had a springy, giving nervousness- without feeling flimsy. As objects they did not strike me as inert, or unwieldy. While I didn't drive them ( merely touched, watched & listened )I imagined what total feedback they must give the driver. Bugatti was an accomplished Lippizaner horseman whom I suspect endevoured to transfer something of the equine experience into his racing cars. Like riding a spirited horse- all as a result of the mechanical intuition Mr. Bugatti developed along with people later on like the Surfers, who instead tamed a wild bull.
Thank you for the read. "Whatever, lets go" Now that folks is a BAD ASS. Long live the front engine dragster
Eastcoast57 - thanks for posting that. I read a similar version several years back - I have long since lost track of where it was. Funny how some 40 odd years later the Surfers are STILL inspiring people. The Surfers and people like them have helped inspire me along the way - and for that I am truely greatful. I'm with "King" on this one FED'S FOREVER!!!!!!!
Hey Guys, Nice to hear people are still turned on by The Surfers story. I'm very proud those guys are remembered in the way that they are... Adam Sorokin...
Adam, just knowing you,Tom, Patty and the Surfers story influenced me heavily to build my Brissette & Sutherland Fueler. I have talked with Bob, but at that time with Tom and your Dad, took Top Fuel racing to a new level. Julie and I will be in the stands cheering you on, because YOU CAN DRIVE ! Take care and give Mike a hug !
Does anyone have this story that they could post up. The link no longer works, and I can't find anything on Google. MELTDOWN DRAGS JULY 19-20 2014
II Funny, try this link, I have no idea if it is the same but it is interesting http://www.hotrod.com/thehistoryof/...ern_california_top_fuel_movement/viewall.html
I just finished reading the articles about the Surfers in Elapsed Times. Very cool! "Whatever, lets go." I think this pretty much defines the pure, untainted spirit of hot rodding and racing. If you can get your hands on a copy of ET, do it. What a great read. I just wish I could have been there.(too young)
The Surfer's are in the news again. http://www.racer.com/index.php/more...ecars-michael-cannon-s-picks?showall=&start=2
The guy who wrote that is an idiot. Mike was driving Tony Waters (Tuttle) car and the rear end was comming out of it
