I'm trying to find a good, honest street rod builder in the Houston, Texas area. I have a '34 Plymouth that needs attention. I've been burned by two shady operations already. The builder that was responsible for adapting the drive train, suspension, and steering got busted for fraud and shut down before getting remotely close to finishing and the painter has inexplicably 'lost' parts that I supplied for the whole build.

Right now the car has a rebuilt 354 Hemi and 727 behind it mounted in the frame. The the body has just come back from paint though I'm still waiting for a fenders, grill shell, and hood. I would like the car to have a retro look.

The drive train and suspension is the biggest hurdle right now. I need a builder to help sort out the front suspension and steering. Right now I have dropped spindles with disc brakes on the original IFS. I would like to retain and adapt the original IFS if practical and safe, otherwise it will need to be s****ped for a modern IFS. Also need help getting the 9 inch ford rear end mounted. Then making it all work in a fun yet safe package.

This is the look I'm shooting for:

So if you have had a car built in Houston and had a great experience with the builder I would sure like to hear from you.

yeap I'd have to recommend Bruce's Rod Shop. I guess he's still on or near Klein Cemetary Road in Spring. Does great work and setup my front axle brackets.

  4. I would also recommend Bruce. His shop has moved to the old SOCAL shop on Cemetary Road in Spring, TX. He does great work and is a hoot to get to know.

If you don't find anyone in Houston, Bring it up to Austin Speed Shop. They'll treat ya right.

    Bruce's Rod shop.
Yes, they moved but it was basically into the buildings behind the old shop.

    There's several shops around us.

Bruce and Danny are up on Klein Church.
Sean Ornduff is over in Tomball.
CMX is on Kuykendahl just south of 1960.

Sad to hear you have fallen victim to Houston's long and dark history of hot rod shop ripoffs.

    Be careful.

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement. I've been dreaming of building this car for a long time.

Sorry, a little late keeping up on this one... think I've talked to you since then on the phone at the shop. Give me a call if you still need help with this one. Matt 281.507.3013
