  1. My sister had mid 80's Camaro with the 4 cyl and auto trans- had trouble making it up hills when it was NEW...

  2. Around 1999 or 2000 HRM did a few stories on "Demon Seed" or bad spawn or someting like that. It was a relatively stock Caddy 500 cid in a Chevette. Very weird and inspiring at the same time. I think their marketing line was Elevens for less than $2000.

In 1974 we took a Grey 1963 VW microbus and put a 1969 Olds Toranado drive train in the back. It flew but - stopping it over 40 mph took days.

I bought a 66 Alpine Sunbeam with a Datsun 1800 engine in it.

Back in High School there was a girl that drove a Ford Torino Wagon with a 351 and a 4 spd. Top Loader in it! She claimed her dad bought the car like that from Ford back in the day. I had never seen a wagon with a 4 on the floor and still haven't!

An old neighbor had a 66 Chevelle Convertible with a an early Corvette Blue Flame six in it.

  6. In the seventies, I had a 67 Ford Bronco with a 170 straight six. I dropped a 327/365HP SBC in it. It would scat but the 3-on-the-tree was a pain. I made beer money betting that it would pull the front wheels off the ground. I ordered a Hurst shifter I had seen in the Hurst catalog and waited on it about 6 months. Gave up and after I got my deposit back, I traded in the Bronco for a 71 Cuda w/ a 440 w/ a six pack. Dem were the days.

How about any early 80's Corvettes straight from the factory? Take your pick on motor option.

In 2004, the local Corvair guys hosted a national convention. This guy showed up with a later model Corvair with Caddy Northstar drivetrain.

There was a guy who did something along those lines here in Louisville. I never saw it, but I heard the stories. Aparently, he was showing off it's wheelie abilities one day when he put the front bumper on the trunk lid of someones car. This "someone" turned out to be a very pissed off rather large man who had about 4 of his friends with him

After the ass beating, the wheelie bus disappeared...... Might be hidden in a garage to this day for all I know!

Back in '60, I put a 55 Pontiac w/hydro into a 51 Chev 2dr sdn. I was home on leave from the Army and on my way to Ft Hood Tx. Took up all 2 weeks of leave but finished in time to head out. I mounted the engine and trans 2 1/2 inches to the pass side to miss the steering box. I have some pics but no scanner to prove the point.

As a young kid in the 1950s my uncle had a 52 Packard 4 door sedan WITH A 331 CI HEMI W/A DRAG STAR MANIFOLD AND 6 STROMBURG 97. 3 SPEED TRANS , WHAT A DOG. Talker

  21. I just remembered about a Chevette with an engine that a guy took a 350 SBC and cut off six of the clynders to make it a two clynder engine. He was going to use the engine originally to put in a mini tractor for pulling races, but they changed the rules before he finished it. The Chevette was at either Norwalk or Milan on a Super Chevy Show.

Triumph "Scarab" converion- 327, 4 speed, and a random dodge 8 3/4 rear end. rust got to it before I did, so it sat 1 inch higher on the drivers front, and You could no longer open and close the doors.

850 Volvo with a small block and a glide...along with a freakishly large muffler. he got the jump on a bunch of folks.

I am personally responsible for about 20 xj12/ Lt1 conversions in Jaguars...it is really too easy. the transmission bolts right up!

BBC into a 94 Mustang....where the back seat used to be.

400 s,b,c mounted about 14 inches back in a 69 Mustang. (drove that one backwards through a pole fence during a thunderstorm. accidentally hit the transbrake button AND the nitrous button at the same time, then let go of the wrong one first with my foot pinned under the brake pedal. not a whole lot of floorpan left in that one...got pretty warm in there pretty quick, too. but changing spark plugs was easy..You just pulled off the doghouse and sat in the buckets. they were right there for the harvesting!)

Caddy northstar in a fiero. quick, AND a real quick way to end up dead.

Caddy northstar into a Honda prelude. it fit waaaay too easy. I don't even having to weld that much.

Turbo Supra motor into a land cruiser. used the stock motor mounts. If You got it into the boost, it would spin all 4 tires.

Buick 455 into a Scout. again...that was too easy. I bet that if You floored it on the wrong hill, it would turn over onto it's roof. it would damn near do wheelies, but ran out of gear inside of about 2 city blocks.

RixRex owns a couple of oddballs himself....the Avanti with a small block Chevy, dodge transmission, and rear end of "indeterminate make" is pretty weird. but it came that way new, so I guess it's not that weird.....

1990s BMW, the small one, z3? or something like that, the small 2 seater convertible, had a sbc chevy with a 671 i believe, super charger sky scraping out of the hood, will admit...it looked like a blast to drive, especially with the 5 speed.

I saw that thing running up and down 61 several times, was too scared to get close! I heard that he did it to lisence his rig as a car and avoid scales

  29. Used to be a guy who rode around Waltham Mass. where I worked in the 70's and 80's, in a lifted black '70 GTO hardtop.
    It was a cherry setup.
He actually used a 4wd Ford truck for the frame and running gear.
I belive he was running a 460 thru a truck 4 speed and all the Ford 4x4 components.
Another guy I used to run across now and then in Carterette, N.J at the salvage auctions ,drove a beautiful dark metallic brown with woodgrain '71 Pontiac Grand Lemans station wagon.
It too was way high up there on some kind of a 4x4 chassis.
The Lemans sounded very much like a big block Chevy but I never saw under the hood of it so I'm only guessing.
Weirdest one I ever saw was in 1974 at an auction in Concord Massachusetts was a one year old 1973 Chevy Monte Carlo.
Just your basic Metallic Red coupe with plain red cloth bench seats, no air, a full black vinyl roof and sitting under it's big old long hood a four hundred something Oldsmobile engine!
The engine was even painted Chevy orange and he said that's just the way he recieved the car from it's elderly orignal owner who could'nt drive anymore.
This was many years before GM got caught swapping engines and badges in the late 70's and early 80's.
