Here's my 65 American. I'm in the middle of a disc brake swap now. I'm hopefully going to drive it to Bonneville this year.

That's a Rambler, so it can't be a '49. Still, good choice for a salt car - I think Nash Airflytes had the lowest coefficient of drag for any production car in the early 1950s.

A '56 Ambassador just closed on eBay with no bids whatsoever and no reserve, and only a few minutes from my in-laws. I kept thinking how cool it would be lowered with my 440 and Torqueflite.

  18. Yeah ... You're right ... I was being lazy and just did a cut & paste of the caption that was under the picture I "borrowed" from the HOT ROD Magazine website (http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/speed_week_bonneville_salt_flats/index.html).

O'Yea. I'm working on a '64 Classic Wagon. Car came out of Florida and was bought on E Pay.

Was listed as rust free. Got my cousin to check it out as he lives in Florida. Turns out the interior is shot along with some rust and all weatherseals bad. Expected but not advertised as is the case with a lot of E Pay listings.

Wanted a wagon real bad so I still took it. Didn't pick it up until a couple of months later.

After getting it home I was going through the glove box and looking at reciepts for work on the wagon. Pretty well maintained mechanically I thought until I got to the reciept that indicated water in the crankcase. Now you know I was looking for the reciept that indicated replaced head gasket or head repair. You got that right. Thats were the maintaince ended. Sure enough there was water in the case. Cousin musta overlooked that when I asked him about the oil and tranny fluid.

Well to shorten this up its moving along and after stripping the paint I find with the exception of two rust scabs at the rear bottom corner of both front doors, it has a perfect body and floorpans.

O'Yea 287 with auto and factory air. Bagged front and rear and I kept the factory driveline.

    PICTURES WILL FOLLOW SOON :D

Just internet or swapmeets for headlight stuff and dash parts..universal rubber.
    There is no parts book:(
Blaser in Illinois has some stuff but no headlight rings. He was supposed to repo them soon. I believe you can use a Ford headlight ring just cant recall what year? Nash Healys use the same headlight ring so finding good ones at a decent price is tough. I will let you know about the Ford rings..a buddy of mine built probably a dozen or more of the American wagons and he told me once about the Ford rings so I will find out.

Better not ignore anything powered by an AMC 401...they WILL get your bucks! 390, 360, and 304s run strong too, but the 401 got my cash when I bet on my buddy's GTO.
