I didnt put any bracing in the body because of the fact that I used another cowl and different dors. I felt it was better that I could move things around while I was doing the chop.

If I was chopping a complete car I would have definatly braced it.

Also if the door posts would not have been as solid I would have braced them, but as they were very solid I didnt worry.

That is the look that the customer is going for.

If it were mine I still think I would fill the roof. I have always loved the 36' that cole foster did, and I think it looks good with the roof filled. Now if it were a 34' coupe then I would definatly do a fabric roof.

This next part of the car should be interesting to do :) With all the dents and rust on the section under the trunk. I decided to drill the spotwelds and remove it completly from the car. With it removed I will get the inside and the floor sandblasted and fix all the rust and dents. Then re-attach it back to the car.

Man, you really work fast --- I guess having the right tools/equipment and metalwork training make a big difference. I have neither, so no wonder it takes me so long to do anything. Chris, thanks for the shop tour last Saturday. It was great to see all those 1932-36 Ford projects coming together and the fantastic workmanship. Like I told you, I would like to bring my camera over and get some detail shots of your '32 pickup and the '36 3-window project in order to inspire future progress on my projects. I'll be calling you pretty soon --- maybe this week end.

Looking Good, Chris. You've got the knack! How 'bout giving me a short lesson on use of the English wheel next time I visit your shop? I'd love to be able to make panels with compound curves.

Just so everyone is aware. When I started my business 3 years ago I was knee deep in the 1940 Aluminum Willy's. I though that was the direction I was heading, building aluminum cars from scratch. But as time has evolved so has my focus and interests.

I have grown to truly love traditionally styled 1930's rods. And that has been where my focus has shifted to. I will still focus on sheet metal fabrication and metal finishing. But it is now on these 30's rods.

So as my focus has evolved, my business name should represent where that focus lies. As such I have changed my business name from “Aluminum Street Rods” to “ Salt Flats Speed Shop”.

Hopefully this name change will help everyone more clearly understand what type, and style of rod's I work on.

    Sincerely,
    Chris Davenport

I worked today on finishing out the weld on the roof insert and I started leveling out the panel. There were tons of small dents all over the roof so it is taking some time to get them out. But it is realy starting to take shape.

I finished up the roof insert today. Overall I am pleased with how it flows with the rest of the roof. Ii still have some dents to work out on the lower parts of the roof, but thats for another day.

    That is outstanding!

Why anyone would NOT want the back window to roll down is beyond me.
