I got three words for the durability of the 4.6 motor...cop car and cab. They run forever. sullivan performance has all you need to make it fast with a carb if you dont want all the wires.

Search around here on Speedway stuff. they have had a lot of failures on some critical components lately.

I have had good luck with them as far as customer service and such, but would probably not use any "critical" parts (pitman arms; shackles; etc.)

Those Sullivan valve covers are gonna run almost $1,000 by the time you buy the covers, special wires and special hardware - and that's unfinished!!!!! They do look nice, but your gonna pay.

To appease the hard core traditionalists, you could make up some dummy flathead covers to hide the cam covers, and perhaps a fiberglass set of three Strombergs to cover the intake.

Yes, because "hardcore traditionalists" build modern powered hotrods and cover everything with fake fiberglass "traditional" parts.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Those damn mod motors are shit... I mean being able to reliably go to 300-400k without a rebuild... junk!

They are wide and don't respond to NA mods very well, but you can make silly power with forced induction.

I've seen a few of these. Someone out there (sorry, can't find who right now) makes valve covers for these things that make them look like the spitting image of a Boss 429, which was one of the coolest looking engine ever. I've talked to guys who have used the Edelbrock carb setup, and they say it is a "plug and play" situation - hook it up, get fuel to the carb, and you're down the road in five minutes. Looks good, too.

As far as "traditional" rodding, the rodders of the 50s were grabbing the best junkyard stuff they could find and using it to build their cars. You'll see a hell of a lot more Mod V8's, LS's, and new Hemis in the junkyard than 303 Oldsmobiles these days. Build what you want, drive it, and enjoy it, and to hell with everyone that doesn't like it (which, coincidentally, was the ATTITUDE of the hot rodders of the 40s and 50s).

If the efi on the motor doesn't work out edlebrock sells a manifold and a controller for the coil packs and you can run a 4 barrel carb.....

I've heard this argument before. People come on the Hamb, rant about how they're street-roddy modern stuff is traditional because it's in the "spirit" of what the hot rodders did back in the day.

The HAMB will not change. Modern engines and billet wheels are not what this place is about at all. This argument has been done to death.

All that being said, it doesn't mean that we're not all of the same cut. I would gladly have a beer with ANY street rod guy, Or (R.R.) guy etc..and I have. We can all learn from each other. But bringing that stuff on the HAMB just stirs shit up.

On a side note, when I was 17 i took my moms crown victoria out and hit a water puddle with it. It hydrolocked the engine and ever since I have vowed to never own anything ford ever again...................actually it was a flooded out street, but I still have MOD Ford motors....and Rosie ODonnel....I hope she's not a moderator on here.

YES the grandfather, the Cammer, would be sweet in any car. I want one for my 1966 Batmobile, but having a hard time coming up with 25,000 to 30,000 for just an engine. There is someone repoping blocks and heads as well.

But to answer the original question, I think it would be the thing I would do. Course that may make you change your mind. I would use the Cobra engine with supercharger. Street and Performance will make you a wiring harness and stand alone ECM if you need one. Not a big fan of their customer service skills, but they do get that part right.

Other than the usual, where do I put the fan in this tight project, I see no real issues NOT to. You may even want to consider a remote fan radiator for extra cooling.

Come to think of it, one of those tail pipe turbo systems would be really cool too.

Call me if you need me to spend more of your money.

BTW put a stick in it!!

If this post is not allowed, please feel free to delete it since I am mentioning a car for sale in this post. I honestly did not want to post it on H.A.M.B since this is a traditional and custom community, but this post is specific to what I have and mentioned above. Thought it could not hurt to ask in case someone wants to do the same thing.

That is the only reason I've been holding off on parting out my 1993 Lincoln Mark VII is the hopes a fabricator may want all the stuff on the car like the air suspension/4.6 aluminum engine, 4 wheel independent suspension etc. The trans is bad though. :(

I'm selling it for 600 bucks.

Again, I'll delete this post if it's inappropriate...

  23. Wow, just wow. I am surprised that this one is still going. Not on topic for the HAMB.

  24. Who says you cannot use the hood sides with a wide engine. Here is my favorite 32 at the Henry Ford Museum with a 392 Hemi with engine sides.

  25. Well I'm glad you posted this. I wanted to ask about a 5.4 DOHC 32V Intech motor out of a Navigator. The power on these things must be almost limitless. The new Shelby Mustang has a 700 hp one and Ford GT's has 500 hp. I didn't post on here because I was afraid to ... lol !! I think they could be carb'd though and that one with the blower on that youtube thing was pretty awesome! ... (Incognito) ....(However it would be fine if it was a SBC, everything has one of them)
