Jim --Glad to see that you started to install the wrap-around
windshield. I ws hoping you would use the complete cowl, so
I could help you on advise on how i sunk it on my 57 Buick.
But, because I sunk mine 2 3/4 inches and you are doing yours
5 inches, I don't think you have enough room in the dogleg to
do it the way I did mine. Sorry I couldn't help you on that.

  3. Wow Jim this thing just keeps getting crazier and crazier. How do you keep it all straight in your head? I would never be able to sleep. I would be laying in bed thinking about how I was going to get everything to work. LOL

Hard to believe you started with this http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=226330&highlight=shoebox

It's come a long way. Keep us posted!

    Screw those seats!!!!!!11

There was some kind of bee's nest in those seats, of course we didn't realize it until I was back on 195 and saw bees in the truck. Nothing like 6 tons leaping to the shoulder at 70mph haha. :D

Love it, TwoChops. I love this place. The sharing of ideas and helping to work around is great. What an inspiration.

    it will be..................soon,,,,,,,stay tuned,,,,

  12. Oh yeah! Now just mold clear acrylic to match your front end sheet metal (before you took it off for this work), and you'd have a pretty cool exposed mill!

Photos look fine to me! Before you go out and buy more shop lights, does your camera have a "slow" setting? The slow setting on my digital camera usually allows me to take what might otherwise be dark photos without "burning" the item being photographed with the flash.

Have you considered raising the bottom door line to Mercedes 300SL level, for step-in entry??
You could split and hinge the center top sections as well, if necessary.

Not surprising, since you don't lack for ideas.
I think Thomas Edison said something like "The secret to having good ideas is to have lots of ideas, and throw out the bad ones". He might have liked you.

    haha,,thats quite a compliment,,
i heard he tried something like 5,000 different ways to make a lightbulb before he was successful....
someone asked him what it was like to fail 5,000 times
edison said "i have not failed 5,000 times, i've found 5,000 ways NOT to make a lightbulb...

...............bolted the nose up just to see where im at,,,,,,,,,,i still need to "untaper" the quarters about an inch or so,,,,,,,the slope is too severe,,the other choice was to section more from the front,,,,decided on doing the quarters,,not so much because it's less work,,but it think it will look better in the end,,,,the wheelwells are mocked up, and i think the extra metal that wraps around the front fenders will work pretty well with those caddy bumpers,,,,,,i didnt think id really like the front wheelwell shape as much as i do,,,but i think it works well...........can one of you photoshoppers lower the car a few inches (side profile pic) if you have the time?,,thanks

  21. Yes, reducing the rear taper will lose some of the side-view banana sweep, and should end up looking much better in the end!

Jim-- Maybe this quick photoshop will help you visualize the wheel openings better in your dreams tonight.Looks like if you lower it more the front wheel opening may need raised.

  24. Jim, you amaze me! I can't find time to build one car and you have already built about 6 here in short order....and all of them look good! Just for grins, came across this today looking for something else. Anyone remember this car? ;)

  25. Someone still needs to build this, but I preferred the version with radiused wheelwells.
(EDIT: I don´t mean I prefer it over what you have now - I mean, from the early mild versions, I think this was the nicest.)

  26. That spear is cool, but I think it needs to be placed on the front fender, with the rear line lining up with the rear fin stainless.

  27. Kind of a moot point now though really, unless you want to build it?:D

  28. No, just a design thought; if someone else wants to build it.

  29. I was flipping through the new Rodder's Journal this morning and there was a blurb on the Goulart shoebox. I know this one started with the canted 53 Buick headlights, but if you squint just right on the one above, you could almost make yourself see the rim of canted quads like Goulart's. Kind of a mix of Junior Conway's Ford, the Goulart and the Hirohata Merc. Now, would it have to be painted Goulart lime green or Junior bronze? I might have to go buy a shoebox. LOL.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,moved the headlights back about 4 inches, sectioned the olds wheel lip to follow the caddy front bumper (still needs tweaking,,not bad though)...
