i don't know how much a stripped cab would weigh, but i don't think it could possibly weigh as much as an engine could it?

maybe iexpplane it wrong a 1ton = 2000mm long a 2ton is 2500mm long and that is maybe important for the height...???

I think either would do. All you have to do is get the cab an inch or two above the frame in order to get it off/on. And both cranes would do that.

To increase the front track without replacing the wheels I wonder if metric chassis GM stock or aftermarket control arms would be any longer or even bolt up?

    I refuse to post a picture. :(

But a "donk" is an 80's full-size car, usually GM, with like 21" + wheels on it. Imagine an '85 Caprice Classic that sits 3' off the ground on really, really goddamned tall gold wire wheels.

I believe the control arms and spindles are the same between the G-bodies and the S-10's. I had a 79 malibu, and I used S-10 drop spindles on it. I think the width difference is in the frame width.

Anyone have pictures of their cross members under the radiator?

  20. sounds like the combo to use us s10 back half of frame and gm a body front half because of the track width being closer to stock. and all this time i thought "donk" was a outback term. that is some funny shit!:D:D:D

    Wow!

You've been working really hard on that! And... is that SNOW on the ground?

I must say, the fit of the brackets is really nice... nicer than the factory! You're really coming along!

And because of this forum, and the progress pictures you've posted, this makes you as famous as that Lakota guy who did the first well documented S-10 swap, as this project will consistently come up in Google searches!

    Awesome job, man!

Sorry, Paul - is there a way to clean up the thread to remove the unnecessary BS so we can retain it? It really has helped a lot of folks out.

I mean, I'd even be willing to take the time to do so, if granted temporary powers to do so.

    I am serious,
    but mean no offence
this particular build technique is street rod building
not that there is anything wrong with it,
but it should never be confused with traditional hot rod building
and therefor I have serious doubts as to whether it belongs on the main forum.

My 54 Dodge sits on the 117 S10 frame. Hacked a little off the front and rear of the frame to get it to fit along with some new frame mounts. I even used the factory GM wire harness, fuel lines, and tranny lines. I used Advanced motor mounts for the Pontiac 350 and TH 350 trans. A fuel cell and Belltech suspension.

that would be Clark, used to be SoWhat.

I would also beg to differ on your "those were all S-10s at one time!" coment. Not one of them was ever an S10, they were all old trucks. They merely used an S10 frame. It may be semantics but like my Int'l, it was never an S10.

You said "but it should never be confused with traditional hot rod building" Please define this as the original HAMB folk or folks meant it to be? I have seen a few other posts with someone saying that the thread or car was not a "traditional hot rod"
