i had two sets of these... the boss got one

  2. I ran them on the engine in my '34 for years, Before that I ran a set of chromed Imperial covers with the plug wire covers (hanging from the rafters in another of those pics). I ran the wire covers to keep the splash from drowning my spark plugs when I passed trucks.

When I put the Donovans on, I ran split shock absorber bushings (cut a section out so they'd squeeze into the tubes) in the tubes to keep out the majority of the road splash.

I switched to the O'Brien Truckers covers when I got a set of Offenhauser breathers for my 50th from Dennis hisself.(had a set of covers but didn't have the breathers and I needed 'em for the PCV system)

I run the 426-style wires and the long, steel, spark plug tubes in '54 heads with the shallow plug well. That puts the tube a bit higher and it helps to divert the runoff and the umbrella on the wire gets rid of the splash.

With a rubber eighties Ford distributor boot and the louvered air cleaners to keep the filters dry, I can leave the engine out in a hurricane and it'll start right up.

Wow, great info Desoto. Mine's not close enough to running yet to have to worry about covering the holes, but when I do get there, I'll definatly keep this post in mind.

I'm running '57-58 Chrysler 300 covers. They have the adjustable rocker bumps and the "Chrysler Firepower" script....they are apparently pretty rare. The plug boots are Autolite porcelain.

I talked to a guy this past weekend that wants to show me some stuff, apparently he has a 270ci Dodge Hemi with a chain-driven supercharger and eight two-barrels. And he did mention an injected 341" DeSoto with 13:1 compression and Mickey Thompson aluminum heads that was built during the nitro ban... holy CRAP. I didn't even realize M/T ever made heads for a DeSoto...

    I'm bringing my camera, I promise. :)

desoto, that is great info! Thanks. Posts like that are why I come to the HAMB.

  9. I should start since I brought it up... Here's some I saw on Ebay a while back. Know nothing about them though. Thought they were cool...

These are not mine. They're a rip off from Mexico that are not machined. Buyer beware!

And you probably got it for like $30 because they wanted to get rid of it and didn't know what it was... or something like that that never happens to me.:D

  29. You might as well put your name on them when you're as famous as these guys.
