Grundy turned me down because I was under 25!!! I just filled out the hagerty form. Waiting for a reply.
I do believe you will be in the same boat with Hagerty but wait for them to verify. It is a bummer for the younger folks in this hobby but please don't be discouraged. On your 25th birthday you can switch over to them AND don't foget to call your daily driver insurance company as well to let them know you just turned 25 and would like a discount as well.
AND don't foget to call your daily driver insurance company as well to let them know you just turned 25 and would like a discount as well. ha! way back when I was young and handsome I went in to get a quote for a late model car I was thinking of buying. I noticed on the computer screen I was paying an under 30 surcharge for my current car so I asked them if that would come off after my 30th birthday in a few weeks and they told me no it would not. got to love insurance.
When I worked for AAA the discount started automaticly on the policy's renewal date AFTER your birthday unless you called us between your birthday and that renewal date at which time we could manually apply the discount. Some companies could be different of course.
Good Point , better yet Spend the money and get two certified apprasials to establish worth of your car. print documentation off e-bay what like cars sold for. the more you got the better my agent friend told me. if you wreck it at the dragstrip yur f-ed.
I can only speak for my company and the answer is yes. All classic cars must be kept in a garage. It might vary with each company.
Been with Grundy since 99. Real close to being the first hot rod they covered. Had a friend that had large claim few years ago and was settled quickly and fairly. AGREEEEEEEEED VALUE - that's what you want. Also better rates for '48 and older rods. Call this lady direct, she's great: Joanne Lower (rep) 800-469-4216, code 82. Tell her Joe K sent you. She does business the old fashioned way - RIGHT.......
As of today, my car is now insured. Went with Grundy based on all the good things I have read about them on here. Now I just need to get my registration and then I will be "legal" and able to finally drive it!! Too bad it is beginning of winter. GRR
State Farm is probably fine if your car is of low value and you never expect it to be worth big money. Or if you're under 25.
I have Hagerty and God Bless the Mother Fucker that crosses me when and if I have a claim. I will not be pushed around by ANY insurance company and have no problem seeking a lawyer. I have been hit by 3 Mercury insureds, twice in my 2001 Siverado and once in my 1971 Chevy shortbed fleetside which they tried to total. Well I hired an attorney to fight them and we produced 10 classified ads that exceeded the value of their offer so they finally gave in and fixed it, and covered all costs. And the B^%$#H handling my claim got a sincere " FUCK YOU ".
I could not get collector insurance when I went to do so for the Corvair. Too many speeding tickets from my daily drivers. So yes that was my fault. I ended up with regular insurance. I will most likely have to live with it for another year for one of the tickets to drop off but then I will get the collector insurance.
FYI, my company had a $125k 56 Chevy stolen last month from the guys home. He was on vacation. After he waited the mandatory 30 days for stolen vehicles, we cut him a check for $124,500.
UPDATE: I hate to keep bringing this post up, but I need to vent and I want to make everybody else aware. State Farm did not like the repair estimate I got so they call a local Ford dealership to see if they will fix it. These are the kinds of idiots I am dealing with. Of course the Ford dealership is not going to fix it. So far I have talked to 5 different people and nobody has a clue as to what there looking at. So again, if you have a classic car insured with State Farm, run like wind!
One of my best buds was over last night and keeping me company in the kitchen as I was making cookies and we were talking about him having State Farm for both of his classic cars. (A scary thought in my opinion) I wanted to strangle him in order to wake him up to the fact that he needs to change. Sometimes people realize they need to change but don't do anything about it till it's too late. Your post should be a wake up call to those folks. Make the change NOW before it's too late. I would gladly consider specialized insurance (Grundy, ...) if they'd cover those of us that have to park outside. I'd pay extra as well.
The latest issue of Old cars has an EXCELLENT article about old car insurance.I think it came out of Skinned Knuckles. Even though you have insurance for a collector car, it doesn't mean that you have all situations covered. I had a brief foray into the insurance business.I always remind people that they make their money when they DON'T pay.
I would disagree. Insurance companies can't just "not pay". They have to pay. Now what they pay and how fast they pay are up for discussion. As long as you, the customer, have all your ducks in a row, haven't lied, have all required documentation, its going to go smooth. Or so it should. I have all my ducks in a row, all documentation, and I am still having problems. But its because I am dealing with a company that doesnt know a thing about "old cars".
Denise I switched to Grundy from Haggerty for reduced rates and a higher agreed value but I think the reduction is that Grundy doesn't include the towing that Hagerty does so maybe the coverage is not exactly the same. Jim
Can't beat Grundy....Insure your ride for more and you pay less than other ins companies. I have had all my cars over the past 8 yrs covered by them could not beat the service and price
I wish I could could get collector's car insurance, but since I'm 16 they'd deny me in a heartbeat. People don't make it easy for us young guns to get into classics.
grundy, sucks big time! I was looking at a car at a show this summer and the radiator hose blew off and got me. Grundy (the cars owner) or there under writer were terrible to deal with after three weeks of phones which they never called me once. I made all the calls even to the supervisor. Dealing with Grundy was more painful than the burn! I had to say I was going to have my lawyer call them!
I totally agree with you. Grundy may be great, but their underwriter Philadelphia Insurance SUCKS. As do the appraisal service they use. I was repeatedly lied to, and I was the one making all the calls. I have nothing good at all to say about my experience with them.
Remember folks, when you buy insurance, you are buying a promise. People go to great lengths to get the cheapest rate possible on their premiums, but where the "rubnber hits the road" so to speak is in the claims department. When you file a claim is when the insurance company proves their worth. Until you all have had to actualy USE your insurance, and file a claim, you really don't have much to base your opinion on other than what you pay in premiums. Let me put it like this. You buy a promise. A promise to "do something". The big difference in insurance companies is what this "do something" entails.
Would you care to share what you learned "the hard way" with the rest of the class? By the way; I think the previous post makes a good point, ask questions before you buy.
If anyone would like some fairly straight forward information regarding definitions of "collector" car insurance terms click the link below. It goes to the NADA site and outlines some good simple information. To get the insurance that meets your needs you'll still have to do some more clicking, and calling, but this can "arm" you with the questions to ask. http://www.nadaguides.com/default.a...6-57794&l=1&w=22&p=9&f=5102&a=19&as=170&any=0
