Did anybody get one of the Old Navy trucks to hack on? I didn't see any in this thread. Wish I could have got one for my father, after I started the whole damn thread on here, but I couldn't manage it. By the time GAP decided to let them go, I had alerted probably thousands of trolls out there to the possibility of scoring one for free. Hope at least a few wound up in the hands of HAMBers who will wrench on them.

My buddy got an old navy truck off ebay, and there's one for sale locally I just saw last week... looked a little rough to me though.

Yeah, I don't think they were realisticly worth much more than free or a couple hundred dollars.

def worth at least $1K maybe even 2k for the nicer ones, they have "new" grill and bumpers at a minimum, roughly 600-800 right there, but w/o a title and drivetrain I couldn't see paying much more...

It drives great. Rides a hell of a lot better, and how does it handle??? watch the video. A bit of work, but well worth it.

Here's my 4 kids very first project truck. A work truck, designed to keep them busy until it is "done"...whatever THAT means.

  21. Tell us how you went about narrowing the late model front end? I've got this really good (Mechanically) 87 Chevy PU and am thinking about putting the 54 on it but it's too wide... The rear is no problem.

Everything was fairly simple. I took the crossmember to a shop for the modifications. They shortened it and the crossmember about 1 1/2" and welded everything back together really good. This allows you to mount it directly to the frame without having to use spacer plates. If you are planning to install a small block you won't be able to use the stock engine mounts because they set the motor too low. I had some fabbed that turned out really well. You can use the tube mount type sold by most classic part suppliers. There were several articals that were really helpful to me. Steve Andereggen Jr. has good info as well as this one and this one by Jon C Peters.
Other than that everything is fairly simple. Hope this helps.
