I am sorry to hear you had trouble. Why would someone use anything to pry the hood open on something as wonderful as big olds. I keep waiting for Denise to bring big olds through Idaho so I can see him up close.

    Denise,
I feel your pain. It makes you want to behave like a child - kicking, screaming, and crying all the way home!

Another rescue by H.A.M.B. brothers for our super sister Denise. Very impressive hustle by the guys, I see a blood on the thumb of one of the dudes, ouch!! Really some impressive work to take care of our girl. The goofballs at the shop that rebuilt the rearend must have had the B-squad on duty. Best of luck with your recovery of $ from these bad performers. Earl will make it all better when he gets your boy in his hands!! Hope the next adventure goes smoother!! Hugs and kisses~Sololobo~

We were all eagerly anticipating your visit with the Tampa Poor Boys and then this happens:( Main thing is you and BO are safe now. Thumbs up for all the folks who stepped up to help. We'll think of you this evening at our get-together and hope you'll make it down this way some other time soon. Even with all the aggravation going on, you still have the inclination to take pictures and post. You are amazing. Please enjoy the holidays and we'll see ya down the road. Mike

Well, at least the C-clips didn't let the axles slide out and destroy the back fenders.

You sure have had way too many issues with that rear. I'd toss the whole thing in the trash during this winters hibernation. Find a decent virgin differential that's never been messed with. JMO

  12. I agree with F&J, seems like you've had a lot of posts about that rearend this year but I could be mistaken.

I've been to the DTS shop, and I have a real good friend up in Michigan who was the GM for the Grand Rapids DTS shop...all I'll say is that I'm not surprised to hear about your problem.
I've see some interesting carnage on rear ends, but never a hole punched in the case!

If anybody in Michigan needs top-notch rear end building, or chassis/roll cage fabrication, call Jay Prosch-Jensen at Ultimate Driveline: 269-792-2776.

Sorry about the crappy luck Denise... But, it could have been a whole lot worse! Imagine what would have happened if that rear end could have locked up, rather than broke and coasted. BIG silver lining for Big Olds.

  14. Dad gum lady, you have the worst and best luck. Bad to break down like that, but good, very good to have all those HAMBones around to help out. As you said, the people are the best part. Hope Big Olds isn't hurt too bad, epecially his feelings...LOL....you know that men can get pretty cranky when their feelings are hurt :). Hope to see ya at the Round Up down here in Tejas land

On the phone with DTS's Sales and Service manager Rob Gutowski this morning. He readily agreed to refund me every dollar I spent with them in Sept. and will review the photos from the hood damage and get back to me on that. Since he already verbally told me he'd take care of that I don't expect an issue there either.

After talking with Megan this morning, and my boss, I have a phone call in to my girlfriend who works for Northwest to see if I can change my flight date for Nashville to Detroit, I would just need to confirm with Dave Pleasent regarding safely storing Big Olds till the weekend of Dec 6th and of course with Earl Schieb that the following weekend will be OK for dropping him off, I might, might , might still be able to work this out and ride down in the surf wagon with Megan and Matt on Tuesday night after work. Lots of starz have to aline for this to work smoothly, keep your fingers crossed.

  17. thats a bummer...
but look at it as an opertunity to put a new rear in it completely
i bet if it was an 8 or 9" you could have been on the road again in a few hours
always upgrading... thats the hot rod way

  18. Denise-
I hope every thing works out so you can complete your trip and feel safe about Big Olds being left behind. Man, there are a bunch of great people out there on the HAMB. Again, good luck.
Hope to see you at Lone Star in April.
    Later,
    Dick

First off I'm glad it wasn't worse and that you're ok. If need be we can do a Denise Relay. I'd be willing to drive an hour or three north to pick you up and deposit you 3 hours south. We could get you relayed in a bunch of HAMB'ers cars. That'd be very cool.

  20. You KNOW I'm in on whatever you decide ;)

Go to Daytona if you can.

Maybe we can work out a relay from Dave's shop to mine for Big Olds. Gimme a call :D

I see the Big Olds prowling the streets of the motorcity on a regular basis. Denise is the social lubricant in this hobby. I've known her longer than we're both willing to admit. She knows more people in the scene than anyone I know. If I was going to screw up a rear end, I would have picked another car to mess up. If she tells her friends, that's thousands. If she tells everyone she knows, well I can't put a number on that. I think she documented the problem well also.

Wow, what a disheartening thing to have happen! Glad it worked out that you got stuck near such great folks! Viva La HAMB!

maybe it's time to get 'rusty' ready as a backup...;)

  24. I don't think that expression should generally be used for bad things... My last name is Domke... a slight mispronounciation could be a windfall for me.:D

I am sad that Denise won't be here tonight to experience a Poor Boys gathering (I am still gonna wear my best party dress) Looks like Glenn will have to repaint his lavender garage walls back to white.

  25. Bummer to see Big Olds down, but it's cool to see people rise to the occasion. All you guys in Dayton deserve a round of applause.

I can't get past this: 'Big Olds was in their shop and employee of DTS used a crowbar to open the hood'.

    Ummm...what?

It was hard for me to believe when I saw the damage and called them on it. They couldn't get the hood open after they drained my brand new Optima battery dead and didn't bother calling me so I could expain the trick to opening and closing the hood properly. The also used a 2 x 4 to prop open the hood while the battery was on the charger instead of calling me and asking. I would have explained there was a custom made hoold prop in the trunk. Fucking idiots.

    Mike said lubricant :D
    41 years is a long, long time...especially since I'm only 29 :D

I tried earlier this morning ;) and will try again alittle later.

Thanks bud, but for you to get to I75 in Ohio will take more then three hours for you.:D

  29. hahaha...for real, dude....not once, but TWICE
Guess who gets to fix it.... I'll be adjusting the hood latch and loctiting the bolts this time

DTS will need the lubricant when you get done. They disrespected the wrong rear end.
