So it's getting closer to my 38 Buick coming into the shop to get it's make over. It's gonna be a tasteful custom with a Nailhead for power. Now here is where I've been getting lost. I want skirts. I want a good low stance. Most likely a dark deep rich color. Just kind of thinking out loud and bouncing it off you guys to get my thoughts in order and congealed. I doubt there will be any chopping, but it is not out of the question.

I have played a little with it and put it down on wide whites, even did it pink with skirts because I'm secure in my sexuality and don't care.

I've looked for other 38's and found just one. That was the Richard Meade one on Rikster's site. It's a carson top and a little much, not really wanting to go that route. Wanting to keep it simple.

I really like the feel of this Rikster creation...

    But I don't think I'd make mine a 3 window...

  3. I'll have to dig some pix out (if I have them)...I had a 38 buick coupe...blue with a 454...sat pretty low with torq thrusts and a 20 foot paint job...sold it in 2000

  4. 40 Ford Headlights would be a plus. Never liked the big Buick lights

Mine's not done. Going to keep the inline eight. I got 2" lowered springs from coil spring specialties, thinking about going with droped spindles for a little lower in the front. Trying to think of something to do with the running boards.

Hmmm... hadn't thought of that, I did think of lowering and working the lights into the fenders... hmmmm...

I did kind of... but I'm trying to gel my thoughts on where to go with it. I doubt I'll chop it. The top lower would take it out of proportion with the body in my opinion. Now it had no engine in it right now so it's sitting a bit high. It will be going down front and back, still trying to decide how to go about it. I have to redo the rear suspenion since I'm losing the torque tube. Looking at maybe a 4 link and bags. Still trying to decide what to do for the front suspension.

    Nice....
Different headlights, like '40 Chevy, molded to fenders....or those ones just lowered?

    And yes.....REAL men aren't AFRAID of a little PINK.......do it....it'd rule!

  11. definitely agree with the 40-46 chevy headlights...extend the front fenders to match the rear ones

  12. Dig up pics of his 48 Buick!

keep those headlights...those will work nicely with the flat spot on the bottom, mounted on the fenders..lots of guys did em that way. The front end has coils so it's a little easier to get the front end down. I also did the idea of the skirts. I had a 37 Special..but sold it before I could cut into it. Great old cars.

The rear half of the car is almost identical to a Chevy with the slanted pillars

'37 Ford lights ... molded in close to the grille and low. Very unique, instantly recognizable and would look good IMO.

Looks like a fun project.

'40 Ford headlights look good on a '40 Ford, but they'd look awful on the Buick. Customs used parts from Buicks, Cads, LaSalles and Packards to make their cars look like expensive cars, not the other way 'round. Besides that, the tall grill shell and hood sides are totally wrong without the headlight pods (a classic Art Deco design) to balance them out.

Drop it, loose the running boards, paint it deep Maroon, wide whites and skirts. It'll be killer. :D

I had planned at least lowering them and working them into the front fenders a bit....

    You lost me here.

Olds/Pontiac actually. I need a tail pan it shares it with the Olds/Pontiac. I actually compared it with a Chevy in the shop and it's just different enough. I can only find one place that does the Buick/Olds tailpan.

    Keep the headlights

  19. What I meant was to either continue them into the doors as a lot of guys did on the mid 40's gm's and to make them have the same lines as the rear fenders

full fadeaways, lower the headlights, 2 1/2" chop, 40 ford skirts, caddy bumpers (48), single bar flippers, filled hood sides, thats what i'd do,,,,,looks like a clean car to start out with,,,good luck with it

Pontiac/Olds rear end, radius the wheel wells, Aluminum slots with pie crust slicks, chrome tube straight axle, radical 301 sbc running tunnel ram and dual quads, fenderwell headers. matte color in dark green, dark blue, dark red.

Now that would be my choice. I am considering that for my 39 Buick, but I hate to do it to such a nice original car. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309146

I have a hunch that isn't the direction you want to go! Best wishes. Love the car.

you sir are correct, first off I would never ever disrespect a Buick by putting a lowly torque starved SBC in there... Especially with a couple Nailheads waiting in the wings.... :D

so I should use my bored/stroked 425 with dual quads as the mill for the 39? I was going to save it for a coffee table

Drop the runningboards altogether and make up some nice frame covers (known as rocker panels on later cars) to run front to rear between the fenders, paint them body color.
