I'm taking my dad on a weekend trip to go to the Pomona swap meet, Petersen, and NSRA museums. Our hotel is in Ontario and other than those 3 places to go, I've got nothing. Any help on places to eat, good burgers, or anything else in the area thats a must see would be appreciated.
There use to be the Ontario Air Museum. Don't know if its still there but I went as a kid around '64.
If you decide to run into LA you should try an original Tommys chiliburger (rampart) or Philippes Roast Beef is always damn good
I'm all over Philippes........ It started the french dip sandwich !! The Lamb sandwich is to die for. Also check out Pinks for a great dog. Yummmm Can't wait till the Grand National Roadster Show to eat my way around town. HAVE FUN !!
El Merendero Good suggestion! I am getting fatter just thinking about it If your into antiques 2nd street in pomona is ok and the cirlce in ORange is good...... If you come down on Thursday you can catch the drags at Irwindale....
If you like Mexican food check out La Paloma on Foothill Blvd. It's close to the Fairgrounds and the food is the best. http://www.lapalomarest.com/ CyberWalt
Just a couple of miles from Pomona Fairplex is the early ford store which was just featured in Hot Rod Deluxe www.earlyfordstore.com Also if you like old ford stuff, C.W. Moss in Orange is very cool, and Reids Hot Rod Parts shares the same building, plus it's in the Old Town part of Orange which is full of Antique Shops and Old Houses - See Bad Bob's Calendar shoot thread for pictures of the area. www.cwmoss.com/aboutcwm.htm Friday Nights there is a local car show in Garden Gorve with a wide variety of cars, traditional and other wise. http://www.mainstreetgardengrove.com/
The Hat is really good.... And don't for get to visit So-Cal Speed shop... and definatly goto Early Ford store...
If you go night clubbing in LA, visit Canter's Deli on Fairfax after the clubs close. People watching at its best! Carney's has better hot dogs than Pink's.
theres a pretty good resturaunt at bracket airport, across the street from the fairplex. you can sit out side, eat, and watch the planes take off and land. great breakfast stuff. my favorite returaunt around here is the pantry on figeroa and ninth. its about 20 miles from pomona though. check out chino air museum too if your into airplanes as i obviously am. pomona fairplex is also home to a small railroad museum. they got the largest non-articulated locomotive ever built among other things
I'll second La Paloma. The everything but the kitchen sink burrito is OUTSTANDING!!! If you really like Mexican chow, the Casa Del Sol on W. Bonita in San Dimas is really good. Also, Zendejas' on the same road is great. Plus, the last time I was there, they had some evening entertainment. Don't know if that is still going on, but if it is - lots of fun. Anybody know for sure???
Norms Hanger Coffee Shop 1615 McKinley Ave La Verne, CA 91750 Had breakfast there a few months back....excellent food.....
If you are staying in Ontario, just west of town is the Sycamore Inn just west of Baker Ave on Foothill Blvd. One of the better restaurants in the area.
yep, zindejas still has bands, and D.J.s on weekends. if your into the whole cowboy thing, personally not my bag, theres a cowboy club upstairs from the western connection in the same parking lot.-be advised... no hats. AT A COWBOY PLACE?
When I go, I stay at the Red Roof Inn in Ontario, right at the airport entrance (I think that's Vineyard). I like to have breakfast at Spires, just across the intersection (great steak and eggs). For dinner, I go east a couple exits off I-10 to Milliken, turn north to the Ontario Mills Mall and drive around the parking lot to Chevy's Mexican Restaurant. Lunch on Saturday (we always go in Sat AM as a seller) is at the Mexican Restaurant outside the gate and around the west side of the Fairgrounds (the name escapes me now, but it's been there forever). May be headed there with a friend on the 5th, just to get there early. Bill
I'll second Carney's for Hot Dogs.Way better than Pink's, without having to wait in line for half hour.
if your by the hotel, check out THE CACTUS PATCH 647 W California St Ontario, CA 91762 its a really cool old family owned mexican restaurant, by the same family since the 30's, the grand daughter i think runs it now, but the original owner would still come in every day to read the paper . Its just a cool, little route 66 type mom and pop restaurant if youre in that area.
