after reading Ryans post with the wooden car powered by a motorbike motor got thinking there may be others out there that have an interest in the old formula 500 race cars from the 1950s.if you have any "naked pictures of them without bodywork showing chassis detail please post them.
and lastly does anyone know what the powerplant is in the small streamliner?any naked pictures of it?
    thanks.

  2. They still race some little cars that look like half scale '30s cars called "Legends" that are powered by Kawasaki engines I think. Pretty fun to watch, but they sound like a swarm of bees.

the ones in the pictures i've posted would of been mainly Norton or J.A.P air cooled single powered.have that cool old big single noise going on.some ran big old v-twins as well.
very simple but some very imaginative engineering came from this class and a lot of famous race drivers cut their teeth in them.

thanks.a bit more modern than i was thinking.the fiat 500 bambina with the ducati 999r engine would be mad though.confuse the hell out of ya at the traffic lights, you'd be lookin around wondering where the hell the v-twin rasp was coming from-a real "sleeper!"
www.500race.org has the real deal old cars covered.some cool old race pics with guys wearing their "race face".

There are alot of light weight road racers that use the Suzuki busa for power..and why not? They can make 300 bhp w/o using nitros.

Not about formula 500 but still motorcycle engined and "traditional" to the max...

In the off-chance that some haven't read the story from Jay Leno about the Indian powered vehicle he has.. this is the link and a snippet from it:

    http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/cars/shotwell_shell.shtml

" he asked his father for a car as he was about to graduate from high school in the early 1930s. But his dad replied that if he wanted a car, he should build one. So, 17-year-old Bob scrounged parts and made his own car. It was a little three-wheeled coupe powered by a 77.2-cu.-in. four-cylinder 1931 Indian motorcycle engine. "

Nope, it's not traditional, but it's mine and I build every piece of it. It's powered by a warmed over 07 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 engine. 'Bout a thousand pounds and 200 hp. It also makes something around 1000 pounds of downforce, yeah it's fun.

What is up with that steering? Looks like using one side of a rack. What is the other end attached to?

Several years ago at Oley,PA. bike show there was a tan Crosley based custom convertible with a flathead Harley. Passenger had to kick start it, it was CRAZY. I don't have a pic, maybe someone else does.
