Man...that just looks like every other shoebox custom out there - can't you come up with something original?

    ha, ha
seriously, I like a lot of the shapes going on there

I am thinking you may want to try to place the front wheel where it actually will be when sitting at final ride height, so you can determine exactly where that front wheel lip will need to be.

  2. Now that´s really coming together at the front. Two thumbs up! Love that "flare" over the bumper.

,,,,,,,,,,56 olds quarters, 53 buick side trim (removed previous trim ideas), triangular piece added to top of quarter (front) which added length to the quarter...still need to "untaper" section the quarters an inch or so..exhaust will exit below taillights,,,

these quarters taper in almost identical to the shoebox's taper..cant believe how well they fit....

gives it more of that "rocketship" concept car look i'm after....

    You are indeed talented, Sir.
I agree with STRAYKATKUSTOMS, this is a terrific thread. Your progress on this build is as addicting as fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate-chip cookies. Now get back to work!

  12. HAHAHA Jim you must have parts of every car made in the '50's laying around there now. Everytime I open this up you have something new that you are holding up to the car I love it!! Keep it coming!

hahah...its funny,,a couple of friends stopped by the other day to see the car,,and the johnny cash song "one piece at a time" was playing,,,,,swear to god...im not kidding,,,,
they took one look at the car and said how appropriate that that particular song was on,,,,,hahaha,,,

twochops..thank you for doing that blend,,i was gonna hit it with some black primer just to help visually blend it for the pics, but i was all out....

  15. Sometimes I think you may just be toying with everyone's emotions. Jim...

I was really loving the way the rear end was coming together...then I am away from the thread a few days, and poof!

I'll be honest, you're gonna have to sell me on this rear end treatment...but I have faith!

  16. After the Lincoln tail lights, the Olds quarters just reminded me a bit of this. the Olds F-88 show car...

Granted, aspects of the car are noticably sweet...for instance:

I was wondering where this build was going... you've got good foresight. I couldn't picture it. Now that you've added some more pieces, I'm hooked.

I have some random '52 Buick side trim pieces, off of a 4 door, but the front fender pieces would be the same, if you end up needing those let me know.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm feeling the new tail light treatment, I liked the Lincoln ones, and with the new wheelwell openings, windshield, and dip in the beltline I think the Olds tails give the car more of a cut down Oldsmobile look. Maybe I'm just not seeing the vision that you're seeing.

Are you going to have the exhaust exit those bottom ports?

Unbelievable. I can't wait to see what's next.

  24. I like what you've done here. Can you add some "plan view" taper too?

There's a little '54 Dodge Firearrow III show car in the new rear:

Jim, you amaze me! I can't find time to build one car and you have already built about 6 here in short order....and all of them look good! Just for grins, came across this today looking for something else. Anyone remember this car? ;)

Someone still needs to build this, but I preferred the version with radiused wheelwells.
(EDIT: I don´t mean I prefer it over what you have now - I mean, from the early mild versions, I think this was the nicest.)

Love this thread. Learning more and more. Did a search on the F88 to show my boy some more pictures and found this on conceptcarz.com

Never seen it before. Like the F88 better but this has some interesting ideas.
