Hi, Elvis here from Rod Bods Downunder, I am new to the site so I thought I would show you my new personal project which I have just pulled down for paint, I am hoping to have it finished just after Christmas.
It is a 1932 Ford 3 Window Coupe, the Chassis is 2 foot longer in front of the firewall to accomodate a GMC V12 702 cubic inch petrol motor. Transmission is a Turbo 400 and a 9 inch in the rear. I have fully rebuilt the motor, the motor has four seperate heads and I have made two sets of stainless steel megaphones which flow down under the car so each head has an individual tail pipe. The brakes booster and master cylinder are mounted under the dash along with wipers, windshield demister, wiring harness also the two modulators and coils as we have converted the distributor to electronic. The distributor is a one of its kind it comes up out of the back of the block and then divides into two utilising two 6 cylinder distributor caps. I fired the motor about three weeks ago and its sounds awesome. This may not be everybodies style of rod but when you build 50 bodies a year and 30 rolling chassis' as well as half a dozen turn-key rods I tend to want to build something a little bit left field.

It does sound grate. We did take some footage i will get my wife to look at trying to put it on.

  5. I guess you finaly found all the parts to re-build the motor?

  6. Welcome aboard Elvis.

What? ONLY 50 bodies a year? I see you've slowed down in the last decade...!

    It's definitely different.

I'm surprised to see you've just joined. Hmm, I guess sitting in front of the pc, hell, just SITTING, must be a luxury when you're as busy as you are!

Why don't you throw up some pics of some of your other builds?
    cheers

Curious how heavy that engine is, Elvis. I have a 401 Buick and that's heavy. I also got a Cad 390 and I reckon it may be heavier but that thing is huge.

The SBC in the other car (bottom right photo) looks positively puny next to that thing! I hope you have some kind of power steering, otherwise I can't imagine how much steering effort you are going to need for that!

Truly amazing car! Please post the mileage figures once you get it driving ;)

  16. Rockin'. Welcome aboard Elvis.
Too wild, this thread'll have staying power.
Similairly, I wonder how many HAMB'ers have seen ( and heard ) Rod Hadfield's '55 Merlin Chevy ?
I missed hearing it last time it was in Adelaide but I get the occasional Merlin fix from nearby Parafield airport.
Elvis, this unique GM engine will be followed with interest by lots of people here.

Hi Rodbods, that Coupe is way cool. I have always liked hotrods outside of the box.I did this one a year ago using a Triton v10 and that sucker flew down the highway so I can imagine the torque of a v12. I know that it wont be up to every bodies tatse but it is a customers car.

I'm unable to visualize your distributor setup as described. How about a pic?

Awesome car....I'm impressed. I assume those are two old GMC V6s? didn't they have weird heads? Spark plugs above the v/covers or something?

    thanks for sharing

SUPER heavy... Blastolene brothers finished a custom build around one of these in 07. As Rodbods pointed out, its one of those "becuse I can" deals. Plenty of torque, though!

  23. That's crazy all right.
I saw Rod's merlin 55 when he had it here for the GNRS 2 years ago. He rented a shop down the street from me while he was here and used to cruise over in the Lincoln Flat V12 truck all the time and borrow tools or what not. I thought he said he sold the Merlin car while he was here.

im repeatedly impressed by the quality and originallity of these kiwi rods i see on the hamb. these things are my main argument for why its ok to ship cars out of the country... nice work, and i cant wait for a soundclip. ive never heard a 702 run.
