Customs 53 Pontiac kustom build Sins or bust

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Taildraggin, Nov 28, 2008.

  1. Had this car for a few years now. it was already chopped when I had it but never finished.
I painted it in a mat finish until I had time do redo it right.
I swapped out the old straight 8 about a year after i had it.
I started the rebuild at the end of summer 2007 and I'm planning to finish it for the Sins show in Antwerp at the end of April next year.

This is how it was befor the teardown

The plan was to take the body off and build up the chassie getting rid of the rear leaf springs and setting it up on air bags and 4 bar.

    First off with the body:D

  2. Once the body was off and out of the way it was time to start the suspension mods
    [IMG]

Axle was temp welded in place
    [IMG]

    Then the springs removed

Lower bars were made up next I used the front spring hanger to mount it to the chassie and boxed the rear part of the chassie

    Top bars

Looking good mate, you never did respond to my e-mail about grilles, any designs made yet?

  11. Bit of repair work on the front floorpan
    [IMG]

  12. Not decided yet, getting all the other body mods done first

  13. Started stripping the paint on the body and foound a few horrors,
The rear quarters on both sides were bashed up pretty bad, with poor repairs with lots of bondo:mad:
Someone had drilled lots of holes to try and pull the dents out.
I cut the inner panel out to get better access to try and repair it

  14. Next the rear window. Just had a piece of perspex in there before, I got hold of a 46 Ford rear screen and put that in

  15. Engine , trans and firewall painted kandy apple red

The headers the one side were off the shelf s/steel block huggers
    [IMG]

the drivers side would not clear the steering box so I cut out a S/Steel header flange with the plasma cutter bought some 1 1/2" s/steel bends and made my own header

put tubes over the spark plugs so I new I could get them out when finished.

This is how it is to date
    Lots to do:D
