My wife won't let me? Gag! Puke! MEOW! I can't stand to try to carry on a conversation with a GUY that says that. Pussy! I wouldn't sell em my car anyways. I wouldn't do that to the Car! It's almost as bad as when the same guy says "We're pregnant". We're??? Yuck! What a Candy ASS!

Amen to that! I can't even believe a guy would actually say "wife won't let me" even if it is true. Can you imagine telling another guy that? Yeah, the "We're pregnant" -- The yuppee phrase of all time!

I think you ought to charge them 20 bucks to look at it refundable when they buy.

  3. They may or may not be wussies.
Sometimes it's just a convenient excuse.
They got all excited about the description and then they start seeing details (cab corners) and get overwhelmed by the work ahead of them.

Sounds like a great truck. I'd seriously consider it if you were next door.

My wife of 39 years has questioned my sanity a few times when I drug a pile of parts that were supposed to be a car home but she knows better than say get rid of it.

The problem may be that although the truck is priced pretty close to right it may not be presentable enough in it's present state to park in front of the house for many guys.
Or the guy is hoping that by chance That he can actually drive it as is and is just looking for a cheap pickup.
You didn't show us your add so we don't really know how it is worded or how the truck actually looks if there are photos posted.

I've had body parts for an 86 S-10 Blazer on Craigslist for free and can't get any takers. Just show up when I am on my day off and pull the parts and load them up and go. It would save me a few sawzall blades and a couple of trips to the junkyard to get rid of the hulk a piece at a time.

I went in and searched out your add an although a HAMB member probably could visualize the truck in his mind it may be more of a project than some guys want to tackle.
I think I would rebuild or replace the mastercylinder and bleed the brakes so it could actually be driven away to help the sale too. 1500 for a decent 56 shortie that runs isn't out of line in my book.
I would much rather look at a truck with a faded and worn original paint job rather than fresh primer as the old worn paint doesn't hide much. I think that is exactly how I would present it to the next guy who shows up, "yep I could have sprayed some primer on it but then you might think I was trying to hide something".

  6. Honestly, I see soo much ridiculously overpriced junk vehicles on Craigslist, I don't think the potential buyers are the main problem, it's the sellers who are unable to truthfully describe their stuff or assess its value . . .

  7. "got a harley for my wife, damn it was a good trade".......serious I hear crap like that a lot or its some damnHOA,I ended up buyin a shop/house on a acre outa town because of this kinda world.........you sound fair on the price....good luck

1500 is a good price. I paid 2000 about 6 years ago for a 56 big window. It needed cab corners, doors rehung, grill, and a new floor. The engine was shot (350/TH350) and the dash was non-functional. It took about three rolls of mig wire and a pile of scrap steel to cure all the rust.

Now that it's all fixed everyone wants to buy it! (for $2000, ha).

I'd pull the engine and still sell it for $1500. That's a good price for a 56.

Tell them to bring a trailer, or don't bother coming. Serious only need apply... :p

  10. So true.

And how come the guy who buys it is always the last one to look at it?

  11. I've learned long ago, that the vehicle they drive up in or what they are wearing is not always indicative of whether it's a sale/no-sale. Sold a real slick '61 Buick Invicta to a guy that pulled up in a beater '61 GMC pickup and he looked like he just crawled out from under a large rock! Asked "how much", flashed some cash and asked to drive it (with me in the car, of course!). Drove it about five minutes and did not ask a single question! Got home and said "I'll take it!". Drove the Buick home and came back for his GMC about an hour later. Dude had a big smile on his face, guess he was happy! I know I was happy to see it sold to the very first guy to look at it!

I had a '62 Lincoln Continental ragtop back in '99 that had been restored before I bought it - fuck, this was a gorgeous car...that never really ran right (bad distributor was the cause - long story!)...BUT, once it was running properly, I ran it locally and had scores of really stupid assholes try to buy it for less than half my asking price of $14,500 (yeah, it was that nice then!) - would be a $30K-$40K car now, easily! I got tired of the pure BS I was getting from people and consigned it to a friend that has a classic car lot. He got the car sold in about two months for the asking price (minus commission, of course!). It was worth the commission to avoid dealing with the tire kickers, bullshitters, test-pilots and mouth-breathers that couldn't afford the car in the first place!

Standard answer I hear from guys at the bike shop, when they don't have the money,or the balls..
"my wife will be so pissed of I buy that"
then don't tell her you bought it
"my wife will be so pissed I paid that much for that"
you want a fake receipt to show her?We do that all the time for our most pussified customers
    "I can't take that home,my wife won't let me"
then keep it at your buddy's house

Amazing as it sounds, sometimes after I laugh at the most pathetic examples of this, they step up and buy it...

i was in the market 5 mo. ago found quite a few for 1500 with hardly a floor cab corners mounts or even a firewall all no motor or trans. ended up with a free 59 but if what your saying is true dont budge on that price a penny. hell i would even raise it! if the guy knows what he wants and what he is lookin at he should be ecstatic about that price.

Did you post a picture in your CL listing? If not, that's half the problem.

CL is hit or miss, but I don't have a bunch of lookers from there no matter what I sell. I put a good bit of info in the listing and pictures and that seems to stop a lot of the nonsense.

Put a coat of black sealer on it, call it a rat rod in your description on peg's list, and double the price. Its always the guy that looks broke, or that doesnt seem to interested that ends up buying.

    Yeap,
I've heard the wife deal quite a few times while selling Harleys. I finally got to the point I tell them "I had a wife and Harleys once, still have Harleys."
    Just a joke.............sort of.

  18. I always love it when I give a guy a price on something & he says
" Gotta check with the wife first "......
You just know you will never hear from that dude again.....
You usually end up wondering how he ever got permission to leave the house to come look at the stuff in the first place.

Price sounds fair. Just have to deal with the lookers and nonbuyers. Sooner or later someone will step up and buy it.

There problem should not be your problem, if you think the truck is worth that, don't budge. There are others they can go bother after they leave you!

I haven't even washed the truck, I may make a shop truck out of it, but too many projects, bills, and an ex wife that seems to have GPS on my cash. I left as I would want to see it, no bondo, no primer.....nothing hidden....but I'm not the potential buyer either, with a dry diaper.

We all get the same shit with anything we sell!!!! I don't get all these assholes that want to waste mine and your time so that they can go treasure hunting with no real intentions to buy. Those idiots should just make a trip to the local salvage yard to get their jollies!!!!

Sounds like a great deal on the truck though!!!! If only------------????????!!!!!

    You must not be married.

    Married man: Wanna have sex?
    WIfe: No

Reapeat 500 times for buying something you should not have...

Women haven't "known their place", since man quit carrying big clubs.

I find it hard to believe that someone would drive "hours", then say it doesn't look good enough to park out front/etc. Either the folks in your part of the country are inbred, or I'm thinking your fishing for a buyer here on the discussion page, instead of the classifieds.

I'm a little reluctant to say this....maybe some guys should have married a girl that is OK with your hobby and your abilities to make a decision yourself.......that or check with the wife before you go...if she ain't on board, don't waste our time!!!!!

I guess I'm fortunate, Cheryl has her collections and interests and is OK with the purchases I make!!!!

  29. Well, most of you know I'm pretty outspoken, and have been selling cars for YEARS. My friends call me the car Nazi, because at Pomona Swap Meet, out of the bunch of us that sells, I try the LEAST to appease anyone. OK, that's my background. In address to your thing.....I'd say---If your wife won't let you park it in the garage, why in the fuck did you drive hours here to tell me that? If you'll get kicked out of your subdivision, tell me, why shouldn't I kick you out of here, you fucking Moroccan. Hope this helps:D
