Ever tried to buy something on craigslist??? just as bad. I hear back from about 1/3 of the folks I contact to try and buy from. I get real tired of taking tha place serious. I just go there to dream thru junk now.

Ehh I reckon the wife is more of just a convenient excuse than anything else...and yeah tirekickers are the worst, that's why I despise selling cars...I agree with another poster, the cheaper the car the worse the BSers...actually my last car I sold on ebay...I probably could have made more selling it locally but sold it out of state, had no problems with them not changing the title(all too common here in socal, and I know two guys that lost hundreds due to parking tickets on cars they sold but neglected to report to the dps)

Also, I worked with a millionaire who's favorite hobby was fooling people into thinking he was penniless. Paid cash for a new O/T italian car while looking like he just walked off the farm into the showroom and was lost. FWIW, ya never know.

You will get a higher class of idiot with classic cars, or hemmings. Craigslist is a magnet for stupidity.

They also think you going to drop price just to sell . O/T i sold a 67 S-code Fastback 4 spd car about 5 weeks ago guy drove from Iowa almost 3 hours and said it was to big a project . I had plenty of pics showing all the bad areas why waste the gas specially then it was still over $3 a gallon and he had a F150 . I set a price it usually is in the guidelines of value so keep driving I'll be waving sitting on this sack of seeds . :D .

7. Ha Ha Ha...I call them that too! They must be the kings of the chiselers.
Where did that come from? I've heard it once before and found it fitting in some cases.

Heard once or twice at my Pomona swap space, especially early Sunday morning...."This isn't a Moroccan street bazaar! Get the fuck out of here!"

If this thread help's anyone's marriage, then I'm happy. Give her the closets, take the Garage back. How much time do they spend there anyway...besides piling more yard sale stuff in that won't fit in the attic.
Have a nice weekend everyone.

The same reason that when you're looking for something and can't find it, it's always in the last place you look.

20. I got it from a buddy of mine. I think he calls people that as a slightly polite way of calling them a Moron:D. I think it's kinda like an inside joke of sorts. You can call someone a Moron without actually saying it

On that "ask the wife" thing. We're not rich by ANY means, but I don't EVER ask the wife what I buy or don't buy. This includes cars that cost over $10,000. My wife knows that if I buy something it must have been worth it because I'm a cheapskate when it comes to buying car stuff. Plus, it helps if you have a long standing record of never loosing your ass on stuff. If the bills are paid, she has no right to complain. Those are MY rules.

Now if the lights are getting shut off and the kids have no shoes and I'm out buying car stuff, that's a different story.

And as far as looking like a bum when they come look....

I've seen multimillionaires driving beat-up old yellow Mavericks with trash and fast food wrappers all over the dashboard. And I've seen guys in suits and BMW's that filed for bankruptcy the month before. You never know who has cash in their pocket and who does not.

23. So true! I had a girlfriend who would ask why I spent my money on car shit. I said, you answered your own question. IT'S MY MONEY. Until I start spending YOUR money on car shit, back the fuck off:D

24. When you find it why would you keep looking????:D

Now a days you can't keep a car on your property unless it's registered and inspected. This cuts the "project cars" out in many locations.

The my wife excuse is straight up bullshit!

If I was you I'd change the price on craiglist to $500.00 more.. then when the first person ask how come its higher, did you do something else to it, just say nope.. I tried to sell it for less then it was worth to get rid of it, but had a bunch of idiots knock on my door never intending to buy it , so now I'm asking extra for all the bullshit time Ive wasted.. tell them your not going to budge on the price either after that.. funniest part is this works. Ive a buddy that was tryin to sell one of those honda fat cats or something like that.. two wheeler dirt bike with big tires.. was selling it at englishtown swap meet.. had a price on it for 700 bucks.. guy kept pestering him about it trying to get it for 500.. kid at the next table was bustin Pauls stones about he shoulda sold it for 500.. Pauls takesa marker goes up to the sign makes the 7 a 9crosses out the new 900. price and writes 800 under it.. 30 mins later he sold it for 800bucks. shut the kid up, and he stopped having to deal with idiots that wanted to either get it for nothing or just kick the tires..

I obviously dont know you personally and mean no offense, but....

Just an FYI, from the buyers perspective, you're that guy that buys stuff and it turns to gold. You bought it, hung it on YOUR wall and now its worth more!? It's fun to go look at your stuff, but I would never in a million years pay what your asking. AND based on the fact that nothing has left your place in years, everyone else agrees with me. So if I have a car buddy in town, we may go see what you have layin around on our way to go find a real deal! You can say all day long that the stuff is worth every penny, but Im almost always gonna find it far cheaper if I wait a while, which gives me more money to buy more parts. As with the Model A guys that have hoarded parts to keep em away from "those damn hot rodders", you only live so long. So much like the day that I kick it and my wife sells my stuff to to people for 1/10th of what its worth, likely the same will happen to most of you. So basically, your just paying storage fees for the next guy.

Statements that disqualify a potential buyer (if he says this, get rid of him):
1. "What's the least you'll take for it?" (over the phone, he hasn't seen it yet)
2. "How much for cash?"
3. "I know you said no trades, but I'll give you my shot-to-hell-POS-that I can't get-rid-of for your car + $1,000". Especially bad: not only do you have to pay money (not get money) but you already know the thing cannot be sold, or he would have sold it. You're not getting a different car, you're buying his problem. Run away.
4. "Gee, yeah, no, yeah, I'm having some problems with my phone so I'll have to get back to you". (you asked him for his phone number)
5. "Great, thanks, I brought my paycheck from work so just give me back the balance in cash" (check is made out to 3rd party, out of state company, far more than the car price)
6. "It's not really what I wanted, and there are these issues (lists the things you already told him about), so I want to pay less than that". Unless the car isn't "as described", that's not an argument for lowering the price.

Crease, I deal with hoarders too. I rearanged my business this year trying not to hoard stuff myself (paying rent on 20 yrs. of extra parts). I changed philosophy to "If I get rid of this little part I'll need it." Yes now I need it to complete a whole project.
If I haven't used in 6 mths, or forsee I will in 6, put it in circulation, before CHEN CO. gets it!
Nice points on this thread.

I think using a magnet doesn't make you an a-hole. Look how many projects are passed off as solid but covered with primer to hide all sorts of nasty issues. I'd much rather buy a raw/untouched vehicle so I can see all of it's issues.
