Sorry these are the only photos I have. PM me and I'll give you the guys number. His name is Gary Johnson from St Francis Ar. He made his own linkage to hook the trans to the driveshaft. It's actually really simple and ingenious to boot. He says the car will cruise the highways all day and hit 80mph.
i guess this will qualify . suzuki 1425 cc with n2o in a reworked front motor car .......... my creation ! ......... steve
Sort of in the same spirit were the H-Modified sportscars of the 50's. These would have been such a blast to drive. http://sports.racer.net/vintage.htm
Definitely some cool stuff here, vintage style and not. Love the harley digger. Poured over that one at the World of Wheels in Indy. Awesome. Would love to see some youtube video of that one on the street. Also enjoyed the Harley track T style youtube video, and then got distracted from that page looking at a VW Golf with a Suzuki Hayabusa (looked stupid fun in the video, check it out...)
The "Diablo Smart" car looks stupid fun too. I have seen the video before, but it was worth it to stumble onto it again. Holy crap... The in-car shots at the end would make any true hot rodder want to borrow it for a spin (don't forget the barf bag...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV4HdsDZX6c
I have always been intrigued by the Honda Gold Wing boxer motors. Aren't they 6 cyl? I have seen one rod with one. I'm curious how to mate them to a gear box. Surprised I don't see more of these.
They also have a reverse gear. Not sure about Goldwings, but a lot of shaft driven M/Cs turn the driveshaft the wrong way to be easily compatible to most common rear axles.
Gold wings units are usually used complete. Motor..trans (5spd) driveshaft and diff...are very car like. I have an old '76 GL1000(since new) 4cyl..but have seen several (4 and 6 cyl)adapted to cars with the entire running gear. If it's kept light..they perform well. The motor is quite understressed and at 6cyl(since GL1500and GL1800 ) has about 105RWHP and similar TQ. Blown I've seen 170.. Reverse on the GL1500 and 1800 is the starter motor turning in reverse..just a slow creeper. Very smooth..some performance enhancement capabilities..extremely long lived..
that's easily addressed in a ford banjo axle by flopping the ring gear to the other side of the pinion. that trick might also work for most any axle design without a ring gear "bulge"
OK not sure on this one - multiple HD engines ??, there is a Vintage racer over here fitted with 4 HD motors don't know enough to say if this is it.
That's awesome!! A dwarf car that went to the hod rod side. I had thought about doing that with mine that I had before selling to some guy in western Canada.
i find the whole vintage race car thing quite amusing in the fact that the vintage car buffs despise hot rods but love their "vintage race specials".my boss is a vintage car guy and owns some quite exotic machinery and is in the process of building a special but i don't dare suggest he's building a hot rod even though like early hot rodders he's mixing and matching early ford parts.all good at the end of the day though as to me it's all the same, guys building cool projects based around parts from an era gone by..
WOW! Steampunk meets HOT-ROD! Don't care if it runs, don't care if it's fast either, do care that it's cool though...
Yeah...The vintage specials.... Those are my favorites too. Vintage hot-rods whether the turned left, or left and right or mostly just tried to go staright were/are often a showcase of imagination. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't but 'ya gotta love the spirit!
There is a guy in MI that built a Crosley Wagon with a harley motor in it. I think his brother is here on the HAMB. I don't have the link to his site on this computer or I would post it. If I remember right he had it at the Detroit Autorama this year.
KZ1000 powered. Some more pics of it here: http://rokonworld.com/woody/woodtrike #1 Is this yours? Neat car....
Here is the link to the build of the Harley powered Crosley. http://www.angelfire.com/mi/MIRG/crosley.html
That is cool! Check out the "hot shot" on the last page and imagine the same sort of motor swap. Very very neat.
That is definately cool, J Man. That's not the one that was at Oley though. That one was a convertible, '50 Pontiac looking grille, and some custom side trim.
It is a 4130 frame, you can see more pics over at my site. Here. For some reason the pic disappeared, I stuck another one up. Thanks
Anyone now what they'd say to building a vintage class bonneville car with M/c Cylinders on a chev straight 6 crank??
Years ago I saw a really cool deal, some woman had found an antique Harrley side hack and set it up with a flathead 45 on the left side of it and made her old an a cool mini car. I think it was featured in hot bike mag eons ago. still one of the nicest completion of the idea I've seen. That kart is sick.
