  4. I've been collecting Flamin' Frank Fotos for many years. They came in handy when we did the body for the Pat Foster built recreation. I was surprised at how little the brothers had in their family collection.
frank actually had at least 3 different bodies on several chassis. Cruz couldn't remember if he was altering the same body, or actually built different shells.
The Foster built recreation is a fantastic piece of craftsmanship, I was happy to be a part of the project.

  5. Great pics of Flamin' Frank, Rich. In the pic racing the Piranha, it appears the body has seen a bit too much fire on the slicks. Very nice shot of frank in the digger. He was more handsome than his sons.

The wheels look a lot like buicks.
Hey Rich, have you got a copy of the shot of Franks car on the return road, close up, after a pass where it looks like it's been road hard and put up wet with oil dripping off the headers and still smoking a bit?
I'd love to see it again, as it personifies the warrior image of a Fuel Coupe in my minds eye.

  11. Sorry, I don't have one like that. I'll add these from the US Nationals with Tony getting some instructions from Pat. That's Pat's son in the background. To the best of my knowledge, this was the only time they fired the car for a short burst in public. Since then the car has been on display at there Brownsburg, Indiana shop.

Inch Pincher ran here at WHDOW once, came in as a big deal VW, a couple of locals whooped their ass!

  13. That car is not the original Inch Pincher. It's a big window '67 body. The original was a '56 oval window. And, if you had a set of those English BRM magnesium Speedwell rims, you could sell them today for enough to buy ANY old, or new rims you wanted, and have $$ left over.

Close, but no cigar....these are Magnum 500 wheels. the ones on the car are Riviera wheels. They are similar, but have a larger flat area to cover the large brake drums!!!

The Happening reminds me a little of the Lovelle Bros. car. Does it to you Mr Lowe? Granted theirs was a 32 Highboy, but the color and basic stance is reminescent

Dale Armstrong drove a ton of cars, either those of his own construction, or those belonging to others. And few knew that he was a Canadian. When the roof on this car was removed, he re-dubbed the car the "Canuck" He was the consumate tuner and developer

  22. This is probably the original Inch Pincher. There have been at least 3, one was severly chopped. This one has a set of Lee Leighton's fiberglass doors. The mold was taken from later '67 big window doors.

See the missing center cap on the rear wheel? V Dub fanatics would pay $500 for one of those to complete a set of BRM's today. BRM's are so rare, and collectable now, my brother just sold a set of four, 3 of which had welded up cracks for $3800!! One guy keeps a journal of every set in the US, and tracks them, listing the current owner. He has the history of every BRM wheel imported to the US. Now, that's an obsession!!

  23. This car ran after I was out of the street roadster wars. By this time the rules had relaxed to the point of overlooking no front brakes, no working lighting, and no mufflers. The big reason I retired my RPU. I wasn't willing to destroy the streetability of my car to lighten it enough to meet the reduced Lb/Cu.in. requiremnet in '69.

  24. I don't believe this was the original Inch Pincher because of the latter model flared fenders and the hokey ass flowered vinyl roof. But at any rate it is nice to see different versions of it.
