Tonghts "Andy Griffith Show"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 2many projects, Nov 30, 2008.

  1. Officer Barney Fife bought a cherry looking '54 Ford 4 door V8 stick tonight and felt he got taken because it was sooooo mechanicly challenged.
So what if it performed like ****, it did have eyes!
How would a HAMBer have handled it?
Keep it and modify to your likings or demand your dough back like a whimpering yuppie?
    Me?
I'd yank the powertrain and go to the big junk yards in Mount Pilot and get me a nice Chrysler wedge or hemi and Torqueflite push ****on.
Remember this took place in 1964 times.

Andy of Mayberry? I thought it was called, "The Andy Griffith Show."

Anyway, I'd be mighty happy if I could find a near mint car that old for $300. Not sure what I'd do with it though. Especially if this were 1964. Although if it were 1964, I don't think I'd be too happy about spending $300 on a car that runs like ****. I remember one epeisode where Gomer said he made $1.25 an hour. So, $300 would be a good size chunk of change.

"Of course you smell gas! What do you think this thing runs on? Coal?"

    :D

  3. Yup............you're right.
    My mistake.
It is the Andy Griffith Show.

I'd like to know how Goober got that Nash(?) torn apart and into the court house in the episode when the state boys were coming to call?
True Hollywood magic in that one?

I never forgave Andy for not hooking up with Barbara Eden when she enacted the role as the manicurist in Floyds shop....Ms Crump was a frump!
Sigh...Barbara Eden is still smokin' hot!

Original name of the show was "The Andy Griffith Show". If memory serves, after it went into syndication in the mid/late 60s it was called "Andy of Mayberry" for awhile, then reverted back to its original ***le.

You may be thinking of the spin-off show after Andy left, called: "Mayberry RFD"

Was that the episode where the steering shaft started to spin up out of the column??

The one that always stuck with me was the one where the car was bought from the "little old lady" and they later found out what a junker it was. Sawdust in the rear end and other "tricks" of the used car trade!

Those two are the same episode, and the episode being discussed here.

I love Barney's reaction and the way the column wilts after what's her name screams. Very funny!

  13. That was the cherry looking '54 Ford that had the sawdust in the trans and rear and the steering shaft coming up out of the column. I'd keep the car considering how nice the body and interior were, put a 312 in it if I could find one, or a 292 if I couldn't find a good buildable 312. Fix the 3 on tree. Unless you're running extreme power, those rear ends don't give much trouble. The one under my '55 with 230,000 miles has never had any attention other than lubrication, still runs quiet. Only problem is that, with a 3.78 ratio, it's geared a little lower than I would like.

$300 was a pretty penny in 1964. I bought my first car that year 1951 Plymouth 2dr. sedan for $55.00 and it had a new paint job. I couldn't afford a new battery so I did a lot of push starting. Wish I had cable or dish net work I love that show, never get tired of the same old shows over, and over. I was making .60 an hour working at a gas station.

I'd LOVE to have that Ford. I used to have one just like it and I put a bored and stroked 352 (428) and had all the good stuff in it. I never did reach full potential because the original 4.11 geared rear exploded when I pulled the front wheels. I guessed the HP at 475. This was in 1964. JB

Thelma lou was Barns chick, she let out a scream when the Horn ****on came out. She was way to cute for Barn. If Wally was the best mechanic and owner of the fillin station, hows come we never got to see him ? Was he match racing the Southern Tracks. Would you leave your shop to Goober or, Gomer ? Like the one Episode when Andy is carrying around a Ford 4 BBL and Axin Goober if he could put it on the Squad Car. It was that motorcraft that had the Float bowles above the Throttle Plates. Heard they started more than one fire. At Least they had the Carb right for the era. Cool Thread. Like the way you think.

The BEST T.V. show ever made, period. I love Mayberry as created in that show...I want to live in that town, joke with Andy, listen to the Darlin's play, and watch Rafe Hollister and Andy play old time sounds while Barney shows his guiltless frustration. I want to go fishing with the boys and get a bottle of pop with Andy, Barn, and Gomer at the fillin' station... OK I'm done.

  21. The best show I saw was back in September when Aun Bea bought her first car.
A '55 Ford Sunliner convertible they proceeded to abuse thru the whole episode.
There was a thread earlier on the H.A.M.B. about it ............ search under "Aunt Bea" or try maybe "Mayberry".

The show was re***led Andy of Mayberry for its initial daytime rerun package in 1964, to distinguish the repeat episodes from the then-new episodes airing in prime time and continued to turn up in syndication over the ensuing decades....In the last episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, character Sam Jones (Ken Berry) was introduced and a sequel series Mayberry R.F.D. was fashioned around him.

Barney's girlfriend was Thelma Lou (no last name), played by Betty Lynn. His other, unseen girlfriend was Juanita, the waitress at the diner ("There's nothing half so sweet, As Juanita, Juanita...").

    Those shows never get old.

  25. I bought a super clean '54 Customline tudor for $75 in '64, needed a valve job and exhaust on the '56 Merc 312 though, and yeah, I made three or four bucks mowing a yard.

Ellen Corby was born in 1911 ... so in 1964 ... she was only 53 years old.

She appeared in more than 100 movies, including ‘’Shane’’; "Vertigo’’; "It’s a Wonderful Life," in which she played a depositor who withdrew a small amount of money from the beleaguered Bailey Building and Loan; the original "Sabrina," in which she was Humphrey Bogart’s secretary; "Hush . . . Hush, Sweet Charlotte," in which she was the town gossip and "Please Don’t Eat the Daisies," in which she portrayed Martha the maid. She also had an active career on television before The Waltons: As Hubcaps Lesch, she sold Barney Fife a bad car on "The Andy Griffith Show"; she played Mother Lurch in "The Addams Family"; and Miss Hanna, the beloved acting teacher in an episode of "I Love Lucy" where Lucille Ball meets Orson Welles. She had a recurring role with Robert Culp in the Western series "Trackdown," which appeared in 1957-1959, and on the family comedy "Please Don’t Eat the Daisies" which ran from 1965 to 1967.

Ellen made guest appearances on many television Westerns, including ‘’The Virginian,’’ ‘’The Rifleman’’ and ‘’Wagon Train.’’
