I drove my truck to work in Manhattan on Friday then drove around Harlem for a while then remembered I always wanted to see the Apollo Theater.A parking spot right out front and had lots of fun and made some new friends. On the way home stopped by the Guggenheim Museum and another spot right out front. Then I met a class of kids from Singapore, more new friends and a few hundred pictures of my car on there way to Singapore. Now I can say my truck has appeared at the Apollo and has been seen at the Guggenheim. Then sat in two hours of bumper to bumper traffic all the way home smiling all the way.To all the Ratrod haters I also have a "nice 29 Roadster" in the garage but the truck is more fun.Lets see some pics of where your cars have been.
I like the people that like my truck but I LOVE the people that hate it.

  4. My roadster has been from one end of California to the other. But, the most fun drive was out to Fontana to do "hot laps" around Ca. Speedway. Don't get to put as many miles on it as I'd like, but in a couple of years I'll have 7 Saturdays, and that will change. :D

As it was first built in McGregor, Tx to go to the 1973 Street Rod Nationals in Tulsa I would have to start with Tulsa,
the the 2600 mile trip to Toppenish towing a 16ft U haul trailer when we moved back up here. I have a photo of the truck and trailer with my son and dog in front of Wilson Arch in Utah somewhere.
Back to McGregor/Waco in 81 For the Lone Star Nationals in Waco. That was a close to 6000 miles total in three weeks including going through Yellowstone Natonal park.
Ogden in 1981 for the Chevy, GMC truckin nationals.
Bonneville in 1998 with a side trip to Plesanton and back up Hwy 97 to Toppenish.
Plus being used as a daily driver between most of 1989 through 2002.
I put over 100 K on the truck with the 250 in it after driving many miles with both a 283 and 350 in it.

Driving round London is tremendous fun, freaking all the tourists out, getting your car in loads of pictures, upsetting all the Ferrari drivers...

  13. We had a 55 Chevy post car that we drove for several years. Don't know how many miles we put on it, but it was a bunch. we did G.G. at Pomona, Puyallup, Texas, Colorado, Columbus, Indy, Rhinebeck, Charlotte, Des Moines, Kansas City. The old car was driven in 38 states and across Canada. We had never traveled much until we built the 55 and used it as an excuse to travel around. We now have a 57 Chevy truck that we started driving 3 years ago and have had it in 9 states so far. we will for sure add more this year.
    Later,
    Dick

  16. Haven't driven on any really long trips, I drive it to work occasionally, but I spend so much time talking to people about it I have a hard time getting anything done.

  17. My old cars have been to Ontario, Quebec, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Conneticut, and Pensylvania, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Massachusetts in the last couple of years.

The wife & I have driven our '37 Chevy coupe and '55 Buick from upstate NY to Wyoming, to Ontario Canada, Bowling Green, KY. Virginnia, and Maine.

Next year we're planning a trip to Texas, then on to SoCal to visit my sister and then back to New York.

  19. When I first put my roadster on the road, we drove it to Knoxville, TN with only a 40 mile shakedown cruise. The next year we drove it from our home in Sault Ste. Marie, ON through MI, WI, MN, SD, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, ghost towns in MT, to Spokane, then back through ID, MT, stopped at a honey plant in ND, drove into a wrecking yard on the border of ND and MN, then home. We met all sorts of people along the way. Wife was 2 months pregnant at the time, and did the trip in 14 days.

Nice!!! I've had my hot rod thru and in Brooklyn and Queens but have not made it into Manhattan yet. First trip will be to midtown, Little Italy, Chinatown and Wall Street.

I always smile at the guys who "would not drive in NY on a bet".

    Good show.

  22. Drove my 37 Ford to Louisville KY. 3 times , Columbus OH. 3 times, Burlington VT. 3 times, Ocean City N. J. 5 times and loads of places in between.

Then the Brooklyn Bridge.Don't be afraid of NYC it's the best place to go for a ride on a Sunday, you will not belive the people you will meet.My hats off to some of you.I wish I had the time.Maybe Las Vegas next year......?

I just got it running the first time last Friday (not insured, liscenced etc.) ... backed it into the street to take a test drive around the block ... stalled ... a cop pulled up along side and asked what I was doing ... I said nothing and pulled it back in my driveway and parked it ... so about 40 feet so far

    Where to start?
Over 88,000 miles in 7 summers in Big Olds, from one coast to the other and from Canada to TX with all states in between, 43 to be exact so far. Was suppose to hit two of the missed states last week, GA and FL but didn't make it. Will try for the last 5 continental states next summer.

Been coast to coast as well in my '47 Chevy convertible. I don't remember what the odometer reading was when it burned.

Sounds like Denise will pass by me pretty quickly now. The Avatar was my first rod, in 18 years we went over 100K miles. Memphis, Detroit and Tulsa in '71, '72 and '73. The next one will be a driver too!
