That '47 has such great lines.

It just flows - so many times that body style looks so forced into the custom mold. This one is transforming to just be spot on.

I would have preferred a different taillight treatment, but this is absolutely stunning!

I lifted the frame under the rear axle more than 5", put the four links and installed airbags. If needed car can be totally put on the ground.

  15. What do u say about Taildragging a 41 Ford Tudor? Have noticed that i start to love Taildraggers more and more and may even trade cars with a friend who wants to trade for a 48 Plymouth coupe.

I have seen your car before and I love it. Saw it probably 10 years ago in Harrington, DE at the street rod nat's. You were parked next to a fade painted Lincoln Premier I believe. Have pics somewhere...

Not wanting to hijack but it seems a good thread to ask this.

Are the main body shells of the postwar coupes the same as the 39-40's? Looks like they are and they probably didn't change anything that major during the war years. Are the Ford coupe shells also the same as the Merc? Probably slightly longer wheelbase on the Merc coupes? Thanks if anyone knows that answer.

Ford and Mercury are different sizes in every direction. (Merc is bigger).
1941-42 Ford are the same shell as 1946-48, and I believe most parts will interchange.

I just read the biography of Bob Gregorie regarding his Ford years working with Edsel Ford and he stated that he hated the short front ends that he had to keep while GM could make the longer fronts. He thought that it made the design look to stubby in front but that is what I believe make for a better hot rod and custom taildragger look than GM. Just a little simpler and more dramatic in their proportions especially when chopped. Although, there are some cool draggers out there from the General.

Thanks for the info- great thread.

The Jetter brothers have more long trip miles on there cars going to shows all over the country than most kustom dudes even dream of. Hell yea the stude is a tail dragger! I got to ride in it in Salina when we went parts store hunting parts for my broke old kustom.

Sorry to post a very belated response to a months-old post.

'39-'40 Ford and Merc are altogether different, but '41-'48 are basically the same from the firewall back. Mercs of that era are on a longer wheelbase, but the extra length is all in the front clip. Atomic, is that what you meant?
