My'40 Ford pickup moved under it's own power today - even though it was just a short driveway test drive I'm stoked. I've had it since August and this was the first time in twenty years it's been driven at all.

I drug it home all the way from Nebraska, where it had been sitting the last two decades waiting for someone to finish it (or even get started on it!) The previous owner took it all apart, sat it on an S10 frame, smeared some bondo on it, then let it set.

I stripped the frame down, pinched it at the front of the firewall, and boxed it with 1/4 plate. The drivetrain is a warmed over 350 with a 700R4 tranny and a 3.08 rear, so it should cruise 70 at about 1800 RPM. The gas tank is an early Mustang 16 gallon unit. Inside are Moon gauges in an engine turned panel, and a 63 Ford steering/shift column. I'm gonna run a bench seat with charcoal and black vinyl, and shiny blue paint. I have matching Americans for the rear.

I know it's hardly a traditional build but this will replace my '53 F100 as my daily driver / shop truck and I plan on making a lot of long haul shows next spring, including Billetproof in Tampa and Detroit, the Road Rocket's show in Indy, the Hunnert car pileup again, the Rust Revival, the Hamb Drags, and maybe even the Lonestar roundup.

I'm gonna hang the rest of the sheetmetal and start on the body next, then on to the interior. I hope to have it on the road by Christmas, although it won't be anywhere near finished.

It's first road trip (I hope) will be to Billetproof in Tampa.

Gator, Do you hear the music from "The Twilight Zone"? I just now sent you an email and asked for some pics of your truck. Must be psychic or something. Man, the truck looks badass. Great stance. Can't wait to see it at Billetproof. Nice job! Mike

No, had to sell it back in the spring to finance this one. I alway try and find a parts car for any major project, the nickel and dime stuff will kill ya, plus you can always make a few bucks on parts.

That one's gone too, . A guy I do a lot of striping for had been buggin me to sell it to him for several months. I knew the guy was serious and I wouldn't even price it to him. One day he asked "Well, what would you take for it IF you were gonna sell it?"

I threw out a figure that was more than I figured the truck was worth, and his counter-offer was $1000 MORE than that. It was still 3 months before I decided to let him have it, which was just a couple weeks ago. I'd have never sold it then but I felt like I was getting close on the Forty.

  23. Cool truck! That thing will be badd ICE. Can't wait to see it in Tampa if I get to go :)

Looks great Gator. That's going to be one hell of a daily driver. How much fun can one guy have?

So if your driving out to Lonestar Roundup, what's a few extra miles to come to Midnight Mass? LoL
