History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

  1. I don't believe this was the original Inch Pincher because of the later model flared fenders and the hokey ass flowered vinyl roof. But at any rate it is nice to see different versions of it.

Apparently sitting in limbo after they attempted to start its resto.

Saw it at CHRR a few years back and it was amazingly complete.

The Lovelle roadster represents the new breed of "street roadster". Basically, take way the motorcycle fenders and small head lamps and you have an altered. Still, this was a competetive car that owned most of the local strip records

  9. The original Inch Pincher was indeed a 1956, Oval window Sedan.
Metalshapes, here on the HAMB, has some really cool history on the car, it was originally driven cross country, put on a boat, shipped to, and raced, in the Nassau Gran Prix, by Dan Gurney. After winning, and then being "outruled" because of some, as I recall, non-stock valve springs, the car went back to EMPI in Riverside, CA, where Dean Lowry decided to make a drag car out of it...
Again, metalshapes here on the HAMB has some really bitchin' photos of the car being raced by Dan Gurney; if he wants to post them, I'll let him.

  10. Great Photo of the Eagle Dragster, thanks for sharing.

Eagle Auto Supply, Eagle Hardware, and the Eagle Dragster were all owned by David Heerensperger. The car pictured is the second Eagle dragster built, and campaigned from 1966 - 1968. Gorgeous Tom Hanna built body, but they could never get the car to run like the first Eagle dragster. The purple bodied, Eagle Electric dragster they ran in 1965 & 1966. Both cars were driven by Frank Rupert.

Can you tell me the year this photo was taken? Do you have any other photos from Palmdale International Raceway? It was Antelope Valley Raceway when I started racing there in 1978 or '79. It looked pretty much the same though. I remember payouts in that tower.

Now you really are bringing back the memories Ross I remember seeing Pete Keegan's VW at the very first drag meet I ever went to at Castlereagh. He lined up against everything there with a tin top on the night and ate them all up. I believe at one point in the early 70's it was the fastest VW beetle in the world.

I believe that this is Don Ewald's Bank Americar dragster. If it is then it was the last FED built by Lil' John Buttera.

Terry Earwood won Indy in 1973 driving Steve Bagwells 1971 Cuda convertible. It was a hemi powered SS/EA car.
