The HAMB reminds me of the way it used to be here in the USA.People respecting the older guys and listening to the great stories and wisdom.

After I quit at Mickeys, I got ahold of one of Mickeys '61 Pontiac ventura hardtops and I had to go see Fritz to find out that the block was a NASCAR block! Bad*** Pontiac! Wolf
I love the HAMB, because these OGs are tame compared to the miserable old *******s that taught me about cars... Bob Earl at the corner Mobil station & my neighbor Remo that owned a body shop up the road a piece, took pity on this dumb kid & showed him a few things to keep him out of trouble. From the time I was 16 thru 21, I lost the ability to sit down from all of the ***-chewings those guys gave me when I worked for them. The HAMB is a fkn love-fest by comparision!
Paragraphs are your friend....and mine As far a searches go, just type in whatever words you want to search for with spaces between them. Example: rear end ring pinion might be all words that are in a thread regarding rebuilding a rear and threads that have these words will pop up
Denise...Now why would you would use that example???? And where's Breeder on this? Seems like his type of thread....
Hell, I STILL go to goodduys and I don't really care which of you ***holes don't like it. If I get an idea from someone else's car, I don't care where I get it. Some of you guys here, like weasel, are all caught up in how you appear to the rest of the HAMBers. Some of you are like bikers, "look at me .I'm a bad***" The good HAMBers are paitent, considerate and non-judgemental. Give me all the sh$% you want, that's how I feel about it. Mike
Oooh Hey Mike, chill Buddy! I haven't gone to a Goodguys deal 'cause I can't afford it even if it's really close by in Scottsdale! Yah, I'm a old guy and I really don't dress or live my life to satisfy anyone but ME! I could care less what some folks do or dress like......I'm not gonna change anything anyway! Whatever anyone else wants to do with their life is OK with me..........Just don't include me as I can make that decision on my own! I do take a lot of percosets tho! Wolf
I found this place thru a Ford forum, was gathering F-1 parts, hanging out there. Someone posted about that bunch of rude jerks, or something similar, over at the HAMB. Checked it out, hey these guys are f'ing crazy!! I finally found other people like me!! Lurked for a few months, did like my dog does with all our other animals, showed proper respect, sniffed a few ***es, kinda eased my way in. Finally had something to say so I posted a proper intro after writing and rewriting it for a couple of weeks. Denise, Roger, I think Jerry & Trent and a few others gave me nice responses and welcomed me to the HAMB. Laid low, thought things thru before I posted, never had anyone ream me. I miss the Friday night reads, Germ's words of wisdom, Marcus and his BS that got him banned, then he snuck back in pretending to be someone else!! Was a crazy place, but also a wealth of wisdom. Back then I could and would read everything posted, in about 15 minutes. Went to the 2nd HAMB Drags, met a bunch of good folks, won the SBF raffle engine Fred built. I have made a lot of good friends here, folks I would have never met if I hadn't found this place.
Sorry, Wolfie, I get pissed sometimes when some 20 something snot nosed **** starts flaming on me when I was doing this **** before HIS DADDY was born! MOST of the people I've met here on the HAMB have been the kind of folks I tried to be when I was standing behind the parts counter at NAPA. If I didn't know the answer, I'd try my best to find it, and I wasn't about to call someone a dumb **** because he had to ask. You know, I read on here about people "lurking" around trying to grow the courage to get involved. Screw that!! If you think it's a stupid question no one is breaking your arm to answer it. And it damn sure doesn't help to belittle someone simply to make yourself feel superior. OK, I feel better now, my meds are starting to kick in.........
This place reminds me of how I grew up. The old man was a rodder, uncles, neighbors. Always an engine swap hanging from the mulberry tree. A 5 yr old doesn't stand a chance before someone says 'hey you got little hands, reach in here and start this bolt, lefty loosie, righty tighty. Here's a beer..." Coming in here was like going back home. A few kickings, some trash talk, thats all part of it. I hate it though when someone really gets mad and starts a fight. Growing up that wasn't done, you'd never hear the end of it if you lost your "goat" Its about the cars. I got more than one *** whoopin' in school for drawing hot rods instead of doing my work. I only have my fine influences to thank. I learned the most from those guys listening. I was told you were given two ears and one mouth for a reason, you are supposed to listen twice as much as you talk. Its worked pretty well. Here I am 40+ years later and I am learning something new here every day. No place like it, just like home.
im new to this place to i didnt really get into the "kustom" part of my life until Bill Hines and Brad Masterson chopped my car. I went all through middle school and high school reading hot rod and kustom mags when i should have been paying attention to the teachers, But in the end it paid off. Im just a 21 year old that has to start some where. All the greats have done same. This place is full of some of the most knowledgeable people in the craft of rod and kustoms. Thick skin is all it takes. It will payoff in the long run.
Hey Mike, I actually spent a little time behind a NAPA counter myself and the answer to the frustration is really simple................ya just have to keep in mind who you're dealing with Buddy! Nowadays I'm WAAAAYYY too old to fight so I just have to kill 'em really fast! Wolf
Oh ya Mike, while I'm thinking about it............The REAL bad guys don't have to advertise the fact! Wolf
Wolfie, Thanks for the reaility check. Remember those customers that when they turned around to leave you'd just kinda shake your head and smile?
I had come by here years ago, I think I might even have joined under another name. I had run across the Jalopy Journal and liked what I saw. But, the forum lay out with all the folds just turned me off. I was a member of a couple of other forums over the years, one of which I am not proud of at all, another I still am a member of. Over the years there has been flaming between the two but I always spoke out against it because we are all car lovers when you come right down to it. I kind of had my fill and decided to see how things were here at the HAMB. I knew some of the members that were cross overs and nice guys. So I joined. I still visit and post some at OSR. I don't offer that much in tech because I've forgotten more then I know today. I mention the magazine I published, maybe a bit to often but, when you can no longer do physical work on a car but want to stay on only involved in the hobby but also add to the hobby, you go and build something. It's much like building your first rod from the ground up without any experience at all and a volunteer crew, one of which is a HAMB member but doesn't post much at all. Since I have joined I have met some great guys and gals. Had great PMs going back and forth, gotten back into contact with old and very dear friends who I had lost contact with over the years due to some major health issue. Neither of my present cars are HAMB friendly but I love Traditional as well as any well build rod or custom. That is the reason for my avatar. That rod was originally built in the 40s and we did a feature on it in the early part of 1989. 10 years ago. There are many people here I'd like to thank for hooking me up with old friends, you know who you are. I also want to thank Ryan for sticking with the Jalopy Journal and the HAMB all these years and making it better and better. I like it here and hope I can contribute to site. And yes, there is some AWESOME tech here. Ok, enough with boring you. OH yeah, one more thing. Seeing as I don't get out much anymore. This place helps me stay on top of things. Thanks.
I joined this forum a little over a year ago, I was a die hard vw guy for over 25 years but kinda got burned out on the scene found an old american car started working on it... got stumped on some things even though I had a service manual for the car, a friend who was a HAMBer told me to check it out, I lurked for awhile then joined ,then promptly made mistakes got put in check and learned the way of the HAMB. now I read posts before I put out my opinion on the subject at hand. many people have taught me things I didn't know, or realize thats the way it should be. I'm not a traditional hotrod guy,but I do respect the heritage of hotrods and customs. and if I ever do get to build a model A I know where to come for the knowledge to build it right...for now I'll keep working on my old '51 chevy stationwagon... Brian.
Ahh yes there is a wealth of knowledge on the H.A.M.B. !! But I think if you act like a ****ing retard thats how you will get treated. **** the same thing applies on the street and in the shop act stupid and you get treated stupid !! But if you are genuine and not talking a bunch of ****, and have a hot-rod question or problem this joint will give you an HONEST and CORRECT answer >>>>.
I think i had a damn easy time as a fng.. Not once did i catch any **** here. I enjoy the posts with tech stuff and the pictures that pop up are damn cool. Lots of serious talent out there that we would never see if not for the h.a.m.b. I learn a little everyday......... Mark..
I've been here since 05 thanks to Hotrod ron & Metalshapes, and yeah Ive had my *** handed to me a couple of times ...hell I mighta had it comin, however its been great, cant thank Ryan enough for what hes done here
damn near every time I log on to the HAMB I either learn something new, remember something I forgot or am inspired...great resource and great people
Man, why does my name keep coming up on posts like this?? Im a nice guy. OK, Just ****ing believe it. Meh................................ I had my **** handed to me but I gave back just as hard as I got. I know stuff all compared to most of you but when I can I help out I do. Maybe I should work on my people skills? Nah, ****it. I learned from a somewhat harsher world than Hot Rodding to look after myself. The be all is, this is a great place where EVERYONE can learn. If its too harsh for you you dont belong in; A. Hot rodding. B. Life. Serious its not that bad guys. If you are finding the HAMB too harsh its time to re-join the Country Womens Knitting Klub (Yeah there Kustom too)Relax, build the bridge. That or hang yourself. Doc.
I think the HAMB is a great place. I have met some really cool Kats here. Tons of knowledge. No one boosting about who has the bigger wallet...but who has craftsmanship. I absolutely love it when a person takes the time to do***ent a build and show the members. All that does is promote our hobby and the relationships between fellow hobbyist.
this place is ****ing great! i find nothing rivals going to the middle of nowhere only to meet up with a fellow hamb member let them drag you around looking at what most people would think is "junk" and enjoy the hell out of it. thanks ryan and all other fellow hambers!
A few years ago I kept seeing references to "those guys on the H.A.M.B. Not all of them were positive but the gist of the references was that this place was all about the type of hot rods an customs that I liked. I finally got brave enough to lurk for a while and then join. Even though I worked in the automotive field as a mechanic, instructor or parts man over half of my adult life I still manage to learn something every day that I click on here. The vast bank of knowledge that members have never ceases to amaze me along with the same amazement at the total lack of knowledge by others.
