This is a 1955 Cadillac Custom ViewMaster. I think these would have gone over like a lead balloon and obviously Cadillac did too, but they would be a huge hit now. Here's some pics and a description.

    Enjoy.

Hmmmm... The shape of the liftgate & tailgate scream Nomad to me... Anyone else?

Duh... Proof you should read the post instead of looking at pictures. Liftgate is a Nomad... ;)

The description states that it is a Nomad gate. :D

UPDATE: LOL... you edited your post just as I added my post. Oh well....

With all that said, man that baby is sweet. I bet it rode like a house on wheels with all that weight. They should have built 'em. I likes it!

There is a guy locally that has 5 of the 7 and the one in the pics I think is his,he also has one that has clear plastic panels in the roof that was made for some motel out west. I would love to have one but they are very costly to restore since they are custom built,he was telling me what he spent to have one that has woodgrain redone and it was expensive but looked great. I wanted to have my country squire done like it but the cost wasmore then my wagon was worth. Jeff

And they made a Woodie, but they aren't as smooth looking as these.

  12. I'd give 40 StudeDude's left testicle for that. Hell, I'd throw in the right one too if it'd seal the deal. (Not really 40StudeDude, but I think you know what I mean...)

I love wagons and Cadillacs so this is the best of both worlds.

Why don't someone make a 2 door Nomad Wagon from a caddy. Not to bucture up the real Caddy wagon, but to make a Faux one. Get out your Plasma Cutters. :D

To have one of those and be a eunuch (look that up in your Funk & Wagnall's), prolly wouldn't be that bad a life...at least, we can cruise around in style...and PRETEND we had big balls!!!

And it'd prolly take both testicles to get one...and a buttload of cash;)

That would make a great long roof. The hardest part might be finding a Nomad or Safari doner rig these days.

Then again maybe use a the roof off a four door hardtop Buick, or Olds wagon. Umm the possibilities.

The ones made for the hotel were made for the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. I remember seeing these when my family and I went to Colorado on vacation in 1959. In fact, I took a picture of a '56 at that time and still have the b&w photo. They were made on the Cadillac commercial chassis as opposed to the Series 62 chassis of the pictures on this thread.

I remember seeing a woodie version on the streets in Washington D.C. back in the late 60s.

I want one with the clear glass roof, but I also want a roof rack on it. So when I look up there's a roof rack just suspended in the air.

Love the woody one, helps to cut down on the hearseyness of it.

To build one, I wonder if it would be easier to graft a different GM wagon roof onto a Cadillac sedan, or to chop the top on a hearse or ambulance and add quarter windows?

A Caddy could be done like the Buick on #20 thread.

    Hey,

Hess & Eisenhardt wasn't the only professional car builder to build Caddie wagons, Designer Peter Stengel penned one and English coachbuilder James Young built 'um in the early sixties.
Big,big bucks when new, for a rig that still looked like a "dead guy wagon"!
