I have the original windshield frame for my 1932 Ford. It is the original painted frame for a five window coupe. My question is should I buy a new chrome replacement, or would it be best to have the original one chrome plated? Also, can someone recommend a quality brand frame supplier, and also a chrome plating company that you would recommend. Thanks

  2. Why do you want chrome? HRP

I like Chrome on a windshield frame.
If yours is OK ... and not rusted ... Advance Plating in Nashville does about the best chrome work I have seen. They did mine on my 3W

  5. Condition of your old frame should tell you what to do..if its good rechrome is fine but youll pay about the same for rechrome as a "new Chrome one"..I'd order up a new one from Speedway and sell the painted one to help pay for the new one.

    Trautwein ... YES ... I agree :D
Speedway ... may not fit as well :(

  9. in my past experiences , chroming original frames is not a good thing to do, even it looks very solid. if you paint it it will last for years , but if you chrome it it will rot out in a couple years. my theory is that it is already rusting some from the inside , and then the acids and crap used in plating get in there and starts eating away at it...

Friends in my area report that the platers don't want to deal with old frames as the rust inside contaminates their tanks. The reproduction one I have fits well, but I don't know who made it.

  15. I have used the Speedway ones several times and not had a "fit" problem..

You didn't mention whether your were going to chop the top or not. If you are, The original cut to fit is the way to go. Advance Plating is good...be prepared for sticker shock though.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack but does anyone do frames for 2 door sedans? Or are they the same as a 5 window for example.

Thanks for replies. No pictures of original frame. Can someone that has a Trautwein chrome windshield frame rate the chrome plating? I don't expect the quality of the Advanced Plating people, but would like to have something that would not flake off after just a few years. Also, does anyone know what brand "Mac's Antique Parts" sells? Are there any good plating companies in the central and north central Texas area? Oh, and no chopped top! Thanks

  21. you dont say what part of Oklahoma you are in,however there is a chromer in Gainesville,Texas west of 35 on 82.They do all the chrome for Peterbuilt Trucks.
Be sure to take a bushel basket full of greenbacks.Dont remember their name.
Someone in Gainesville can probably tell you.
