since the last one was closed,i added a ***le that tied it into the other thread so people would know what project it was.

this is a progress thread, but i like to have a ***le that grabs your attention.

if it has to be this way,i understand.

Give us a good overall shot of the front jig. I'd like to see the way you keep the bars from moving, and any clamps or other mounts.

All I am gonna say is you are the man!!! It is guys like You, Littleman, and Jimmy White that I strive to build like everyday. It just dont get any better and on top of that you and your dad are down to earth and there ready to answer anyones questions even if it is on the clock on a normal busy day. That means alot.

Thanks Danny and Bruce for all the post and the great pics

the stuff i make requires tooling that most builders don't have, sometimes i feel showing it is a waste of the HAMB's time.

i guess i need to change my at***ude, and throw it out there anyway.

    richard,glad you like my stuff.

Danny, thanks for posting the pics of your whole hairpin process. I now understand why you asked whether to post in this thread or in a new one. you've got damn fine system set up.

one question, the blocks with the concave trough cut into them, are they used to hold each leg of the hairpin at angle in the mill?

again, thanks for posting. it most definetly gives me something to strive for.

Not at all. Most of the time we are a pretty resourceful bunch of scrounges and an acceptable work around is easy to figure out.

There is still inspiration to be had from something like that. i.e. Even if I didn't have access to a mill I could copy the fixture and do the notching with an angle grinder and file.

    Nice work as always.

you are correct,on the blocks.the one with the slight angle is to hold the bars at the right angle to mill the fish mouth.the one with the greater angle is for the 7 degree angle on the bullet, where the eye meets the frame.

feel free to ask all the questions you need.

Thank You Sir for taking the time and posting great Tech! I have a question on the Hairpins. How did you bend the end with the radius?

    Outstanding.

  20. True. I have had a mill for six months, and a lathe for a few years, but I've barely used the lathe, and the mill isn't powered up yet. Someday these will come in handy(when I retire???). Seeing how this is done, could help you plan a job and take it to a machine shop; with knowledge of machine set-ups, you could have a jig built and the part ready to be machined, saving a few bucks. If that makes sense.

i have a jd squared manual bender with replaceable dies for different sizes of tubing.the hairpins are 7/8" diameter, with a 3" radius.my crossmembers are 1 1/2" with a 5.5" radius.

    hope this helps.

they are front shackles from so-cal that i made wider to fit a 2 1/4" rear spring.those are a prime example that you have to change everything you buy.at least i do,it seams nothing is good enough for me.it is a curse.

hey moe, brandon h. stopped by the shop today,we had fun talking about the old days.
